Not particularly, and I'd love to be able to just put out books at a semi-leisurely pace without worrying about how I'd pay for rent, utilities, food, hygiene, et cetera. At the very least my current job is quite possibly my favorite one I've had so far, and I'm in my mid 30s. *shrugs*

That thing they told you in school that everybody can find a job they love was a bold faced lie so no, I don't enjoy working. The amount of people who actually have their hobby as their job is a tiny, tiny, microscopic percentage of the population.

But I enjoy being able to buy things I do enjoy so I work.

Not my job but I might like to do something else. However I make too much to try out a new job and too many bills to pay.

I dont mind working, but for goodness sake, the standard work day needs to be five or six hours (with wages / salaries adjusted, of course).

I know its supposed to be eight hours of sleep, eight hours of work, eight hours of your own time, but that eight hours of work doesnt take into account people who dont get paid for their lunch breaks (like, I have to work an eight and a half hour day because I dont get paid for my half hour lunch), the commute, the time it takes to get ready, etc. so when you really look at it, we spend so much time working and sleeping rather than really living that its disgusting. Especially for poor saps like me who have to do this six days a week.

Not only that, but I know some people who started to hate their hobby once it became work. Because it doesnt seem as fun anymore. Though, thats also different from doing stuff you enjoy while at work...

I dunno about "hobby" necessarily (I guess it is in my case), but yes, hopefully you can find something that you can become great at. if you can't enjoy something intrinsically, at least try to enjoy mastering it. (may even be more important than just enjoying it.)

not sure what you meant here, but yes, it sort of has to stop being a "hobby" once you're doing it constantly as a profession, but it doesn't have to become something you hate. maybe you can't do it leisurely anymore, but you can still love being great at it and improving at it. a good profession/skill has basically an infinite progression curve. you can spend your entire life getting better at it and still have more to learn after decades.

Eh... Id agree to being good at it. Though, as its work, I still probably wont find much enjoyment out of working it. Thats not to say I dont enjoy being around certain co-workers. But doing the actual job does ever interest me. Because I have to do it. Doing something on my own time when I want to do it is fine. Doing stuff because I have to do it to live sucks...

I absolutely hate working because I don't own it. When we work for someone else, we are at that person(s) mercy and I don't like having my fate controlled by others.

I love working so much where if I won a big pot lottery I would almost certain get an entry level job at a small box store.

I've had jobs I disliked, and jobs I loved. And years where I worked four jobs, on the run 18 hours/7 days and didn't have time to think whether I liked it.

Retired now, only teach a few classes, new career as an auto mechanic helping out at the shop next door. It's nice to only do what I choose to obligate myself to do. But I can't imagine not working.
