The new printers come with "starter cartridges" that doesn't last as long as the actual ink cartridges though.

Anyone ever see a solution to this?

I hear comments like this about razor cartridges, but razor companies usually give nice coupons with their razor heads that'll rival razor subscriptions.

I don't see that with ink cartridges though. I also shave often and print rarely.

They have places that will also refill printer ink cartridges, for much less than the cost of new ones. In Gilroy CA they actually had a chineese food place I would go to for lunch that did it as well lol....ink and an eggroll special!!

Ink sucks. A Brother laser printer is cheap and gives you hundreds of pages before it actually runs out of toner. Ink dries up or lies about being empty.

I've done that. I only ever use a printer for basic printing, so I don't need anything all that precise or crystal clear. And buying a cheap printer at Wal-Mart is literally cheaper than buying a single ink cartridge even at discount prices.

My printer cost about what it costs to buy a pair of black and colour cartridges for it, so I'm right on the cusp of that being true for me. I'll still buy ink, though, because I'd rather not generate the absurd amount of electronics waste that throwing out a printer every few months would be.

Costco, office max and tons of other places will refill them for $7 as well. You can also buy refill kits online etc. Never have to pay more then $10 to refill an ink catridge...so no reason to throw out printers.

I just stop at the library, all of them let you print for free, some (like the ones in Olympia) let you print an insane amount per week for free lol (1000 pages per week per library account).

Yeah, the libraries in that area are great. They are connected as well so you can request books from other branches as well. Also have alot of ebooks if you like reading that way. They also have meet up/get togethers and things like speed friendship (like speed dating but just to make friends lol).

Also if you like Dungeons and Dragons there are games there, although if your into DnD or board games/comics etc you should hit Olympia cards and comics sometime, It's called Gabby's (after the person who owns it). TONS of get togethers, board games and DnD sessions there and just a great place over all. They have food drives that you can donate to etc as well.

Ink carts for my Brother printer are dirt cheap. $32 for the OEM black XXL carts and $55 for a full set of OEM color XXL carts, or $16 for two third-party black XXL carts and $9 for a full set of third-party color XXL carts.

I've printed 4752 pages and I've replaced the black cart twice (current is at 50%), and each color cart three times (currently at C 53%, M 87% and Y 42%).

i should elaborate that i've since stopped, since i had to get a more fancy printer that has a scanner built into it, and those are decidedly more expensive than ink.

You can get one for about $30 from Wal-Mart if you're not overly concerned about extreme resolution.

I got a printer for free from best but. It was priced at 160, but got them to price match Amazon's 80 dollar price tag. During checkout it came with an 80 gift card

They charge per sheet in our libraries. Not much though. I can also use the job centre to print out things for nothing. All I really feel the need to print out is copies of my updated C.V now and then for when I hand my C.V around stores. Most places are all online these days for the job application process but some places are still more than happy to take a paper C.V.
