The performer made his kids slave away so they could work for peanuts. He was proud to be a generational street performer, living off the street like beggars. The kids had talent as the son was very good with playing a drum and the daughter had a great singing voice. The kids grew up to become teenagers. The son finally had a huge argument with his father over living the tramp life with no hope of improving their lot in life, and ran away. The daughter, heartbroken over her brother's departure, lost her voice and became very reluctant to sing in their performances. So the performer, anxious about losing his 'livelihood' and the 'family tradition', went and poisoned his daughter to blind her. Now blind and with no education and no skills, the daughter was now forced to slave away under her father and keep singing for their meager living. This continued until the performer got sick and died. On his deathbed, he confessed to his daughter that he blinded her, but also added that he wasn't sorry, that her sorrow over losing her eyesight had 'improved her voice', so he'd actually done her a favor, and that now with her rancor over this revelation, her voice would now improve even further and he was proud of what he had done for the art of street performing. And so the daughter lived the rest of her life as a blind, singing street performer with a bit of prostitution on the side. The son and daughter later have a chance meeting, decades later. The son, having had moderate success in his life, was looking for his sister all this time, but he doesn't recognize her. She does, but she decides to remain silent to save her brother the heartbreak. O'Quinn's character was depicted as a guy who simply wanted a happy, albeit idealistic family, but it's just that he doesn't understand that a perfect family not worth killing over. Aside from being implied as mentally insane, he is shown as a charming guy who genuinely enjoys social events and bonding with his family. Walsh's character on the other hand was depicted as a cold-blooded narcissist who will kill his current family for not meeting his expectations and will kill anyone who tries to dig for his past. He doesn't appear to be a nice guy either.
