I feel like I made too many mistakes and rash decisions, and that the proctor was too lenient. Should I be worrying over this?

I must have these answers.

Getting your license has very little to do with actually learning to drive so I wouldn't worry about it.

No.

For all we know, OP is being way too hard on himself. Besidses, you dont have to be 100% perfect on the exam to get your license anyways.

Self doubt never works as the instructor knows more about driving than you so you're fine. Get yourself a motor if you haven't already and enjoy.

You shouldn't worry about it. I failed twice before I passed, making me feel the same way. The examiner said that I was very careful, and just needed more practice, so I shouldn't start driving alone right away. I did practice a few more times with my parents before I dare drive alone.

Well remember, you can drive so atrociously any driving instructor would trust you to drive back to the test centre but you still wouldn't get stopped by the police.

they don't even test freeway driving.

if you are that worried then use one of those driving schools if you can't get someone else to help you practice

This was along time ago mind you, but when I was 19, I took my drivers test, I didn't have any parents who taught me to drive or who I learned from, and having gone into the AF at 17 (and just gotten out), I had no experience driving at all.

I read the manual/info booklet they had, memorized it, passed the written, and then had no trouble at all with the driving test, they literally tell you what to do for most of it. Back then you needed to be able to parallel park (not sure if you still do) but I think you could still pass even if you didn't pull it off.

That was seriously the most "tricky" part of the test, the rest is just following the rules, using your blinkers etc, and driving safely. Even if you never ever drove before, you could probably pull it off (I think I drove a friends car briefly in a parking lot?......don't even remember for sure).

I have not heard of anyone failing....at least not once they were an adult, I have heard of people failing a test in Highschool though, but perhaps those are harder? I think the test I took was literally around the block of the DMV (that was it, just drive around the block, stop at stop signs, lights, signal when turning and be able to park.

Even if you fail, you'll get info on how/why, and can just be extra careful the next time. I am not actually sure whaa they are testing for, unless they have changed drastically, do they think someone is just gonna tear off and ignore all rules during a test? They already test with the written portion to see if the person knows the rules, so I guess it's just to ensure they can put it into practice.

Of course as soon as someone passes the test and gets a license they stop following half the rules and forget them all, especially in LA and a few other places in the US lol.

My drivers test was literally 2 minutes long in the rain. She had me drive down a side road, do a three-point turn and go back to the parking lot.

you'll be fine. Experience is the only true way to learn how to drive, and you cant prove that on a drivers test. Youll get better over time regardless

Learn the size of your car. Try to drive the speed limit. Count 3 seconds before changing gears from drive and reverse. Every time I park my car at home I park in reverse. Then when I need to park in reverse or park between 2 cars thats really not hard.

Don't feel too bad. If you do then just work on being better at driving.
If it will make you feel better I failed on my first try and on the Second try, where I did pass, I had left the parking brake on for part of the test. I took it off quietly after I noticed it was on.
