I'm not sure how things have changed in the past while (probably haven't followed a GameFAQs contest in over a decade) but I've always bet on the following trends:

• Zelda games will win (BotW as the champ for this IMO, and well deserved one at that)
• Outside of Zelda games, Mario games do really well. Nintendo in general is extremely strong but dudes like Donkey Kong struggle for some reason.
• Final Fantasy / JRPGs are typically very strong too, though weaker than the big Nintendo games.
• Legacy matters a lot. For example, I think Street Fighter, Diablo gets a lot of respect from the average GFAQer due to legacy and may overperform.
• I think Big Budget AAA Western games/IPs will still do well, but underperform a bit. RDR2 for example I don't see making it out of the third round.

Should be a fun contest!

allen picks games on metacritic ratings.

it wouldnt have beaten re2 or fire emblem or even dqxi but it shoud have been in there purely to test strength.

kh3 isnt going far anyway.

Not for PS4 or Xbox there weren't. Which are the only two systems and categories it could have been up for. Also Exclusives sort of take priority with his selection.

But yeah Allen messed up not including KH3. Sometimes you have to not be robotic and go with common sense options. The PS4 options were abysmal.

And although I laughed at the exclusion of Skyward Sword. HAving thought about it I'm pretty disappointed its not in. Yes i dislike the game and think its one of the worst Zelda games...but in the context of this contest and how we analyse everything..it would be nice to see a ZElda game get beat by even most non Nintendo tier 1 games. Witcher 3, Skyrim even Persona 5 imo would have SS beat. But would be nice to see those matches.

You have to look at what the 2011 games are though:

Deus Ex Human Revolution

Dead Space 2

Ghost Trick

Add to that it being a year where a lot of the most notable snubs congregate (Skyward Sword, Uncharted 3, Mortal Kombat, Mario Kart 7, Super Mario 3D Land) and thats a good year right there. However, as with 2010 it certainly hurts from being at the very beginning of the indie boom. Those years only have one each (Minecraft doesnt count.).

At most I can ask people to post their picks in order and write a simple VBA program that spits the cookie, but that means y'all will have to write the picks, as opposed to using that script thingy that copypastes your picks from the bracket itself.

Funny because Persona 4 Golden is a remaster. Yet it made it in

But that is an exception.

And MArio 3D land i agree with. We have DS1, BLoodborne, Sekiro and DS3. We don't need another FROM game. Smash most likely didn't get enough votes nor should it be in this contest because Smash Ultimate makes it obsolete.

Everything else bar SS is just not popular enough here.

I'm kind of glad. This is ZEldaFAqs afterall. SS winning any close matches would have been awful because its a mediocre game tha would have gotten boosted by Zeldafaqs

Listen i love P4G ony one my fav games ever. But if were being honest...it shouldn't be eligible. Otherwise games like SOTC and Wind Waker have more of a reason to be included.

It sort of is a remaster. Because it got Widescreen support, updated visuals and new voices/music as well as new content. Its an enhanced port. Lets leave it at that.

Either way ports/remasters shouldn't be included

But i'm glad it is included. Because I didn't play P4 until GOlden.

Also i'm going through my bracket again and i'm tearing my hair out on P4/Red Dead

I mean P4 to me could be incredibly popular..it should be. But i don't know. I don't trust this site when it comes to non Nintendo games.

I mean if SOTC had a new colossi or WW had an extra dungeon it would be eligible? because i don't think they would. and WWHD sort of does have new content. Or rather cut out crap content from original.

I think P4G got a shit ton of noms and Allen put it in there based off that.

WW HD probably didn't because people assumed its a remake of an old game.

Fornite only counts the single player. I know Diablo 3's reaper of souls version was counted separately (another 8 million). Borderlands/Skyrim VR versions not included here. Danganronpa 2's page appears to include the first game (because of the 1-2 reload version). Zero Escape Nonary Games version not included, and there may be a few other re-releases like that. Generally though, these are worldwide stats that include all versions.
