first 4 and a half minutes are a mix of casual talk and the hell of being home with 4 kids.
then crowder gets into Shapiro's questions for what needs to be answered before we re-open the economy.

fatality rate and how that works. don't know the infection rate but ben assumes it's between 2.5-5%. plays with asymptomatic figures and how it can bring a rate down from 5% to 0.7%. crowder prefers per capita measurments because it's a constant number and, even if it's going to go up and is flawed from that, it's something reliable. ben disagrees for a variety of reasons, including factoring how that doesn't match lag time. finally, at the 9m mark, he focuses on young people's death rates.

decided to dig a bit deeper to get an idea of what Shapiro's opinion is though. do know he's data heavy on the subject, that much is clear in the vid too.

you didn't need to delete it, it's honestly a good sign to keep track of who's saying what. if you know somebody's blatantly lying about certain content and clearly never saw it (hell, in the screencap they were still discussing Shapiro having 4 kids) then you know they're prone to lying about that subject and can be more cautious. enough instances of this and you can pretty much cut them off as useless on the subject.

It's for normie Democrats (and maybe even some of those independents) that also don't like China. It's scummy, but the Democrat establishment has been trending this way for a bit. And Trump already has an ad out that's saying Biden is too soft on China, so of course Joe is going to fire back and turn this into a hawk-off.

It sucks because it's pretty misleading, but this angle is probably going to work for both of them because in general it's still "fuck the Chinese government." But this is just a xenophobic scapegoat for our own shitty issues.

Criticizing the Chinese government (who do have a lot of blame here) is very different than attacking the Chinese people. You have to be careful because there are straight up racists that will try to attach themselves to you, but it's not out of bounds at all.

It's the same issue as with Israel: criticizing the Israeli government is not inherently anti-Semitic, but you have to be careful about whether other people who are saying similar things are actual doing so in good faith or because they're anti-Semites.

Maybe the Democratic candidate shouldn't put out an ad blaming "the Chinese" and complaining about "40,000 travelers from china" when anti-Asian racist sentiment and attacks are skyrocketing?

We literally just established that European travelers are the majority cause of our cases (IIRC, it was LOTM who even shared that article!), so putting out an ad like this just stokes those xenophobic sentiments.

Also, don't take my word for it, plenty of Asian Americans are speaking out about this. You have to seek them out on places like Twitter, of course, because if you type "Joe Biden racist ad" into Google it only brings up Trump stuff, the media is really killing it this election.

while at the same time escalating measures against said Chinese government, which he's been doing his entire presidency. it was his campaign, it was what he had before the campaign, it's what he's still doing now. Trump is the anti-china candidate.

assuming this isn't sabotage, i'm figuring Biden is trying to do this because it's very likely that this situation is going to make a lot of single issue voters on China and he's got a bad record and narrative to fight against. i just can't see this work because it totally puts the fight in Trump's wheelhouse.

Honestly there was plenty wrong with letting people in after the travel ban. Mainly the screenings and isolation/quarantines that were in place when they entered the country were insufficient. This practice continued with travelers entering from Europe.

I'm not a fan of the ad because I think it strays too close to being problematic but unfortunately calling out some of Trump's absolute lies on the subject pretty necessarily stray that way.

Calling out his utter hypocrisy on praising China's transparency versus citing it as a reason to halt funding to the WHO (not a connection made by the ad but given his WHO nonsense was pure projection it's sure to come up) nor the fact this travel ban wasn't the total ban he claims it is (something he's been doing with his Europe restrictions as well, straight up lying about the scope.) I do feel like the tone of the ad is wrong though.

OTOH, shutting off my emotions and going into cold, amoral analytical mode it's the kind of dirtier, negative type of ad that Republicans have been effective with in the past. All the data has shown repeatedly that as much as voters say they don't like/want negative ads they work. Biden's ad lays out facts and might be designed to demotivate some of his softer support. And I hate to be relative about this but the idea that that ad is, in any way, more racist than the shit Trump puts out - and has put out - is crazy. I think it's an ad aimed for center-right voters but you're way out of touch with the kind of attack ads the right puts out to think this is in their league. hell it wouldn't even make their minor league.

Back to normal now, I don't like the ad, would not have made/run it, but I do think the points of his lying are important it's just you have to be careful with that attack vector because if you mess it up, as I feel they did here, it can be problematic.
