I mean, the teens granted their license had their permits for over a year. I'd hope they had practiced enough driving by then. I was able to take my driving test after 6 months with a permit but didn't test on purpose until after a year just so I'd have more practice.

Assuming that sanctioned driving instruction was a requirement for getting a license, it might not be as big a deal as you'd think. Plus apparently they had their permits for over a year.

I didn't take a driving test, but I did take driver's ed with an instructor in the car who passed or failed me, so it was effectively a 2 week driving test

Yeah, as absurd as this sounds, road tests tend to be more about strict adherence to arbitrary rules than actually testing competent driving. I'd still want to see somebody vouching for them having enough driving practice to deserve a license, preferably somebody credible who incurred some kind of personal risk by giving that recommendation, but there is a legitimate argument to be made that formal driving tests aren't altogether necessary.

Yeah road tests are a joke. Teenagers will be shit drivers regardless

When I got my license the girl after me couldn't park. She almost hit my car multiple times trying, the instructor parked it for her. She got her license.

when I got my license, we would have our parent / guardian in the back seat. If the parent / guardian said even a single word, the student would automatically fail. They had to keep their mouths shut the entire time

It's so easy to pass driving courses anyway, theres thousands of people who should never be allowed to touch a wheel-like object but they can still drive.

I'm sure each and every one of these kids would have "passed" regardless.

Although I'd be lying if I said I wasn't slightly worried, traffic around Atlanta is some of the worst in the U.S maybe the world, we don't need more stupid people making it worse.

This would be ridiculous if it weren't for the fact that all of these kids have been driving on permits for awhile already. But seeing as they have been driving, it's not even an issue.

Pretty sure our government actively wants to kill all of us to save money. This really is a shitty state even if in this case the driving test probably didn't matter. I knew a fair amount of people in highschool that failed the test, some multiple times as well as most people lying about their road hours with a permit. The main risk here is probably people hitting your parked car though which sucks but isn't that much about safety.

I had my permit for over a year and didn't drive once, but I agree that licenses are pretty much a joke. The number of incompetent licensed drivers is astounding to the point where i avoid driving certain times and in certain areas.

Thats insane. I thought being able to jump right into a box truck or towing a fifteen-foot trailer after passing the road test here was bad.
