So by doing all the quests right away, I'm leaving Colony 9 at level 12.

Am I overleveled?

a little, but nothing crazy. the boss of the next dungeon is level 12.

I felt like I was pretty overleveled for the most part, but I've started to hit some more challenging baddies at the Satori Marsh with my levels at the low 30s.

Maybe a little bit, but it's no big deal imo. Every major area will have some monsters to challenge or wreck you even if the general enemies are too weak.

the trick to sneak past Gentle Rodriguez and pick up the quest item he was guarding still works

technically I can now allow him to live for the rest of the game

but I'll still be back to finish him off when I"m stronger

you know I never really touched the trading system all that much
was filling out my Collectopaedia for Colony 9 and saw I was still missing a flower
went through the trade list in the affinity chart
and hey a lady had the flower i needed

Yeah I only used the trading system at the very end. It's pretty robust too - I think every named NPC can be traded with?

I think I went Shulk/Dunban/Melia in my original playthrough

took a bit adjusting to controlling Melia though since her AI is so bad, but she's the best when player controlled.

So most of the time my first two playthroughs I followed the storyline with the occasional grinding and sidequest.

This time I'm doing more exploring and almost every sidequest.

Holy shit I had no idea how massive Gaur Plains was. Like I bet I've only seen like 25% of it on previous playthroughs.

Definitely, I think she anchors the main team that can beat enemies that have like 20 levels on you, but she needs to be human controlled, and unfortunately imo, she's not as fun to control as ol' Dundun or Shulk.

I did basically every sidequest when I first played, and I'm sure it took me like3 or 4 times longer as it does now

when the EU release came out I did 2 100% playthroughs back-to-back, then a rushed ~3h playthrough with moon jump and super speed hax

The US release came out while I was in Nopon Forest and I downloaded some sort of tool that would let me convert my save from the EU version to the US version and I just continued from there.

An underrated aspect of Xenoblades localisation is that as it was made for a European audience, the characters talk like actual British people (albeit predominately from the South of England in 1) while it usually gets overplayed in US-made dubs with British accents. Theres even a Chuckle Brothers reference which has to be unique for RPGs...

So, this quest where I have to raise affinity level between two female party members so some children in Colony 9 can play nice? What would be the best way of going about this, since having them as support roles in fights doesn't seem to be going fast enough.

The best way is to have them in your party. You can get a lot of affinity points if they're with you when seeing quest dialogue, and helping them recover in battle. Otherwise just spam them with presents.

Finished all sidequests available to me up through Gaur Plains in about 14 hours

I forget how long it took me in the original, but it had to be well over 20 hours and probably closer to 25.

I reached Frontier Village, where 100% runs hit a brick wall of agony. This has to be my least favorite segment of the game, and the damn quests just never end here.

Frontier Village I think was the 50 hour mark for me in the original

Will probably get there by the 30 mark this time around

going back to the north side of the bridge on the bionis leg and luring one of the level 78 Gogol's to the edge of the cliff and putting them to sleep with melia's hypnotize (while making sure your party members are set to not attack) then using her spear break to knock then off the cliff into the lake below for an instant kill and looting all the treasure boxes for thier gear

It's also a good source of EXP, AP and SP although the EXP is capped until you get close to the level of the monster then you start getting a greater amount

I've heard almost exclusively good things about this but nothing I've seen of the series has made me feel like it's something I'd enjoy

I'm usually down for a good action rpg though, so should I give it a go anyways or just skip it
