Hilarious. Easily in the top two or three mockumentaries ever made, WWDitS is an amazing mix of awkward workplace humor and standard horror fare, that, when combined, creates The Office of the supernatural world. Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement just knocked it out of the park here, bringing all of the charm of Flight of the Conchords - awkward social interactions and all - to a genre that, on paper, shouldn't work.

If "So bad it's good" can be applied to anything, it's this schlocky spawn of Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, studded with an inordinate number of stars, and weighed down by an absolutely preposterous script.

A wonderful little piece that resuscitated the career of RDJ and probably was the last great Val Kilmer role. Criminally underrated actor.

A phenomenal exploration of a piece of legislation that redefined the entire culture of America, and the difficult obstacles Lincoln had to overcome to see it brought to fruition. I'm a sucker for a good political film. This isn't a good a political film. It's a GREAT political film.

Thank You for Smoking
Rating: 98/100

One of my all-time favorites, Thank You for Smoking finds a strange amount of heart in a heartless, cruel industry by turning a jaded cynicism into a witty insight. Aaron Eckhart knocks it out of the park alongside a deep bench of heavy hitters including career performances from Dave Koechner, Rob Lowe, and many more. The deconstruction of the advertising industry is of course propaganda, but it's the right kind of propaganda, smart and enjoyable. The sugar that helps the medicine go down.

The first Pirates is a fantastic adventure film. While it certainly has its share of dull scenes (generally those focused on people who aren't Sparrow), the entire affair is exactly the sort of live-action adventure romp that Disney is known for creating. A world is established, rules are laid out, and the ocean is populated with a number of unique and interesting characters. It's a baseline for a series, the sort you can't get much better than. If only we could reel back on the amount of Knightley and Bloom, you'd have a nearly perfect comedic adventure.

Re-watch complete! Us - Rating: 76/100

Jordan Peele has put together some pretty compelling horror pieces over the last few years, and while I'm not a fan of the genre generally speaking, the complexity of his work speaks for itself. Us is honestly a more interesting piece to me than Get Out in terms of its themes - you have to work for them a bit, but when you suss them out, you really find yourself drawn into a story about how privilege comes at a price, and how society is built on classes which have to naturally resent one another. Cool stuff. The only downside, I guess, is that the twist at the end actually completely breaks the concept of the movie. If you give it a moment's thought, you'll realize that it doesn't fit with the function of the movie's major conceit.

Anyways, I've got some errands to run and so on, so I'll be back tomorrow morning.
