I mostly heard it as an insult and it gave me no interest to look into it. But then I started to hear about what it was, and it seemed like exactly how I run most my life and build relationships.

What's the main staples of Communism? Try to be mature about it. Your insults mean nothing here.

I was sick as a kid. Im uneducated in this type of stuff. I picked what I liked and ran with it. Didn't get into politics at all until my late 20s

We tend to be taught that it's synonymous with totalitarianism (the end result so far) and that it's evil, and not taught about any of the theory or how it's been applied in part to non-totalitarian systems like ours. My schoolbooks taught of the USSR, Lenin and Stalin, but barely touched on Marx and never mentioned Trotsky, for example.

At the very least the lesson could've been that the road to Hell is paved with good intentions.

No, Im actually just bitter I was accused of concern trolling because I asked questions about transgender people during a conversation.

I was told I should just Google it. Yet this topic is okay.

I know what communism is, but dont get why its demonized so much other than the historys major antagonists being communist and previous propaganda.

I assume its because human nature kicks in eventually. Why should I strive to work harder if THAT lazy bum gets the same reward? Why work hard if my efforts dont provide more gain? Etc etc.

Cause that sets it up for spoiled generations to come in while many in the same country die from the results of poverty every day.

And let me say this before people attack me, I would change all this without seeing any of it personally. I can stay in the same place and be "poor", Im fine with it. I have enough to eat and hang with my people, that's all I personally care about for me.

Not sure.

My best guess is technocrats (in principle it should be workers, but usually it's technocrats) deciding on what gets made rather than letting markets or capital flows decide.

It usually boils down to trying to control the economy rather than letting the economy control itself.

But yeah, that's how I see it too. I feel like if you're a thoughtful person, all the stuff going on in poverty would make you sad. You wouldn't have to feel that sadness anymore. You'd see a lot more smiles on average. But I guess the rich can easily block all that out anyway

but the only thing they really have in common is that all means of production are controlled - directly or indirectly - by a party supposedly representative of the united workers

which doesn't really say much

read marx to get a feel for originalist communism - communist manifesto, das kapital. former is a quick read, latter elaborates on the "science" of marxism but my god is it long and dull. from there, i'd imagine you'd want to read lenin to get a feel for marxism-leninism, the sorta generic form of communism if you will.

to understand the nuances of the different strains you'll need to do your own research because i have very few writers to recommend off the top of my head.

Its not like Russia ever was or became democratic. The utter lack of social institutions means consolidating power is quick and relatively easy, and the pressure to do so in the face of a brutal civil war is great. At the time of the Russian revolution, the Paris Commune was the revolution everyone talked about, and they basically spent most of their brief existence hashing out a framework for government and holding elections. All their commitment to democracy got them was a visit from the freshly-consolidated forces of the 3rd Republic. There was a general feeling the Communards would have had better luck had they gone for the kill and hashed things out afterwards.

As for communism, there are a lot of different strains of communism, but 20th-century revolutions either intentionally patterned themselves after Russian Bolshevism/Stalinism or arose in areas without social institutions that could temper the impulse to consolidate power. Most on the left today consider those revolutions to be failures not worth replicating.
