Oldschool Runescape. One of the games i can sink countless time into and the only one i play that i view as something that cant be completed at least not by me.

At first I was thinking about just going with a MMO since those are constantly expanding, but sooner or later I imagine any MMO will shut down, even the ones that have gone for 20+ years now.

So probably Skyrim, especially since it tends to be a get of mods and is naturally expansive. And, given that Bethesda has just been re-releasing and remastering it for years now, it'll still have quite a few years of mods before people get distracted by a new Elder Scrolls game.

No one game has enough content to last an entire lifetime and every MMO I've played gets boring within a month. So I'd probably just find other hobbies if I was limited to one game. I'd still pick Skies of Arcadia though just because I enjoy a nostalgic romp through it once a year or so.

DDO (dungeons and dragons online), has an insane amount of content, and extreme replayability, that being said people have actually done it all already, so if you spent 10+ years playing nonstop you would to and then be pretty bored.

But I don't think any other game would last me that long, so i'm still gonna go for it (and if I didn't play that much it would last longer.

Basically there are 20 levels of 14 classes (think that is still the total), each of which you need to play 3 times (from 1-20) in order to get all the bonuses for reincarnations from them. There are 13 races, each of which you need to play through 3 times (seperate from the classes). There are 12 epic destinies (post level 20 in a main class), each of which I believe you need to reincarnate 1 time.

IF you don't cheat and get rushed and play through the game that would take an insanely long time. Play self found and solo everything. In addition you have reaper points (gained for doing quests on the absolute hardest difficulty) that also boosts your character (out of reaper quests as well).

Finally all of that, and you could actually eventually end up with a character of each class, and a few combos/multi-class characters etc, so nearly limitless play long term.

To just get 1 character fully flushed out and finished through all that would take years, to get one of each class, decades, to get one of each main combo, best builds, different races with different advantages etc? It would take lifetimes.

If I had to pick a single player game, probably bannerlord but thats hoping that they make it good in the next few months.

That's 416 and 2/3rds days of playtime. You'd be real hard pressed to put in that many hours in less than 2 years.

Whilst I could play something like skyrim for decades, I would be so tired of it after like 500 hours that I'd probably never play it again. I'd rather get a good 10 years out of FF14 than be able to a return to a game that I'd hate by then.

I'm sick as hell, games are the main way I socialize since I can't go anywhere or do anything, theres no way I'd pick a single player game.

I also expect something like FF14 to be going for a very long time, probably on private servers if the official server ever shuts down.

out of all the paradox games, if I had to pick one, i'd probably pick HOI4 honestly

the combat is actually interesting and has a ton of depth unlike most other paradox grand strategy games

Even in two years, assuming 8 hours a day of sleeping, that only leaves a total of 72 days not playing, or an average of 2.4 hours per day. Averaging 2.4 hours of playing per day would be quite a bit, but have that be the only time you're not playing would be just ridiculous.

Realistically, if somebody's only able to play 1 game for the rest of their life and they've chosen a server based game, it stands to reason that they would start up a private server themselves for it, since they have so much to gain by doing so.

I think I went over 1k hours on my first playthrough. If that was the only game I could play -- and I gamed more -- I could see myself putting in over 10k hours, given multiple playthroughs, mods, etc.

500 hours is kinda low for an open-world game. Even Kid Icarus Uprising I think I finally put over 700 hours into (although I'm not sure how many days that was across). That was back when I would actually game, mind you.
