A government lockdown is basically like handing Amazon free money. Also that's net wealth, meaning that Amazon's stock is up.

You new here?

Those people have too much money, which means their wealth should be stolen and given all the poor, POOR people who are obviously suffering due to the evil of capitalism, patriarchy, and other assortment of dumb shit leftists like to blame on their woes and not due to their poor life choices. Following that re-distribution of wealth, all those poor people's problems are going to be fixed, they'll never be poor ever again, and the evil of capitalism, which has shown to be so much less efficient than all communist/socialist ideologies in the past, will forever disappear. And everyone will be happy! Look at how the CHAZ was a complete success!

Now want to hear something scary? Some idiots actually believe this will and should happen.

You mean stock traders moved their investments from higher risk companies to the larger, too-big-to-fail companies.

Large organisations are inherently more stable than smaller ones with more diversification potential, it's one of the hundreds of ways wealth gain is exponential, not linear.

....again, this is mostly just changes in stock prices. It has little to do with anything, although obviously Amazon itself is doing well in the pandemic because it's the largest online retailer at a time when stores have been closed by lockdown orders (mostly be DEMOCRAT governors, contrary to assertions), are having fulfillment issues, and a lot of customers don't want to risk their health going out.

As for the idea that small companies are somehow better, they generally aren't. Even mom & pop stores can be much bigger ball-busters than most corporations, even if they don't approach Amazon levels. A company being smaller or a person being poorer is no sign of virtue by itself.

Fazeo13 posted...

Sure, Amazon's warehouses are objectively horrifying. It's the kind of place where work doesn't stop even when somebody drops dead. However, he pays his workers a *lot* better than most retailers and low-end jobs. People have been talking about the Fight for $15 for years, but Amazon has started people at $15 possibly for longer than that fight has been going on.

No, what I'm saying is that a lot of the "gains" in "wealth" are purely virtual because, until you actually sell the stock, you haven't made any money and there's no way he could offload that much stock without the price falling and the stock itself will rise & fall over time (hence why changes in evaluation aren't the same as actually gaining or losing that money). And I know we've had this discussion a few times. Almost all of Jeff Bezos's "wealth" is in Amazon stock, most of which he needs to keep to have a controlling interest in his company and the evaluation could potentially tank (unlike cash which only loses value due to inflation). Everybody talking about these peoples' wealth are imagining Scrooge McDuck money vaults, but nothing could be further from the truth.

At the end of the day, all Jeff Bezos really owns are supply chains (and a newspaper that he uses to relentlessly attack politicians), although even then his ownership is split among others because of stock (except for that newspaper iirc)
