Bad RPG, but good game. RPG elements are heavily reduced compared to the previous fallout games for a smoother action/shooter type experience.

And if you like games with building in it, it'll keep you entertained for tens of hours just on that alone.

It's fine. People get really bent out of shape about how the dialog system works. The previous systems were better, yes, but 4's works fine.

Don't remember what the other major complaints were. Story and quests were fine IMO. All in all, not my most favorite Fallout in the world, but still had fun with it.

A lot of the mechanics were utterly pointless and there wasn't enough meaningful unique content to the point where I felt like I was working a second job just to get through it.

Ghoul encounters were stupid since you could just hs them all while they were still on the ground.

And my game glitches out so stealth was absolutely broken which was annoying since I just wanted to be a sneaky sniper

What I would really love is something like New Vegas with robust crafting and settlement building systems like 4's.

Excellent concepts but poor Bethesda standard execution, which is pretty much representive of most direct BGW titles in a nutshell.

If say, Arkane Studios were asked to make a Fallout game from the ground up, you can bet your ass it would've been GOTY worthy.

No, Fallout 4 is not a bad game, at least not in the sense that we usually mean with all the truly terrible games out there. Sure, its not as deep and perhaps not as impactful as the Fallout titles before it, but saying its bad would be too strong a negative.

Overall it's ok. The quests are fucking terrible though. It's fun to run around blasting stuff, but not much else.

On it's own it's alright but compared to its predecessors it's just not as good. The RPG elements are all stripped down like others said.

Discovering a new area that looks like work went into designing it only to find enemies and maybe a loot crate was a big problem. No quests or anything to interact with as soon as a person spots you it just turns into a shooter.

I think it is what it was intended to be. It's clear Bethdestha put no effort into making this an RPG with any meaningful choices, role playing or deep character customization like every Fallout the preceded it. The meat of F04 is the shooting and looting mechanics and that was Bethesda's intent.

Yeah I agree with this. I enjoyed the settlement system to a point, having supply lines and watching the wasteland become less barren was cool. But they didn't do enough with them to keep you coming back -- unless the dlc added to it significantly, I never tried any of them

Idk, the dialogue system was a selling point of Fallout for me.

Like I tried my hardest in Fallout 4 to make a more villainous type of character, but because of the way dialogue is handled, the absolute best you can manage is reluctant anti-hero.

Then when you try to do actual villainous things in the game outside of the story, it feels jarring, weird and hilariously OOC because of how your character interacts with the other characters in-game.

I always liked that in New Vegas, there was enough freedom and depth within the dialogue and storytelling to where your character could have numerous reasons for joining certain factions. Like you could join the Legion because you legitimately believe in them, or you could join them because you're a sadistic fuck and they're the one faction that would give you the freedom to live out your murderous fantasies.

Seems more that its a different experience than a good or bad experience on its own merits. Compared to the previous 2, its just not that great if that is the experience someone was expecting. Its like old Paper Mario vs CS and OK. The latest two games arent unredeemable trash like SS was, but they are completely alien to what longtime fans wanted from the game.

...no, Fallout 4 is much better than Outer Worlds. 3 and New Vegas are up to personal taste vs. 4, but Outer Worlds was just... not great.

It was pretty. how ever beyond that it was step down from New Vegas and even Fallout 3.

This game is not going to have the best action. So the story telling and the RPGness needs to be on point. It wasn't for this game .

The one good thing it did in terms of actual fallout-ness was the far harbor dlc. That dlc was cool as hell, everything else was just OK at best.

Great exploration, mediocre story (base game), though far harbor is way better, its amazing how the game has one great dlc and probably the worst DLC i've ever seen in the whole franchise, whoever made nukaworld should be ashamed of themselves.

It wasn't as good as I expected it to be. I still enjoyed it, and don't regret purchasing it. It could have been better and I'm disappointed we aren't getting a New Vegas style installment.

theres too much. too much life. too much story, too many cutscenes, too linear, too shiny, too busy, too many people, too many objectives, too much crafting, too much collecting.

fallout is supposed to be dead. the wasteland. survival in a dead future.

instead we're given too much of everything. it doesn't all need to be there.

When i was told by an NPC i can just kill all the raiders i went for that, legit cleared the DLC in 15 minutes and i refuse to ever look back at it.

It's not bad, just not that great. Disappointing would be the best word for it.

The game is fun, but there were some small changes that made it less fun to me:

-Power Armor is basically like piloting a mech suit. Im not saying it wouldnt be fun to have that as a option, but I really liked having power armor operate as normal armor with way better stat bonuses.

-Armor in general was more tedious and time consuming to deal with. I dont want to equip five pieces of armor plus a helmet. Just give me armor + weapon. Yes, there were some single-piece armor suits, but they really werent focused on heavily by the developers.

-Not including special/unique weapons really took away something fun. There were guns that were somewhat unique, but increasing weapon enhancement made it to where you could basically make whatever weapons you wanted. That was fun, but once youve found what you like, there isnt as much incentive to branch out.

-The ability to build stuff in game was fun, but not necessary when you consider how much time and manpower it probably took for the developers. I feel like they could have spent their time working on something more productive, such as gameplay or new weapons

Weapon damage numbers were weird, too. I had a shotgun that on the stats screen looked like it should have gibbed everything it touched, but my silenced pistol did more damage than it.

Best gameplay in the series. Second worst story and quests in the series only behind Fallout 3.

Fun game if you just wanna run around the Commonwealth and build up your base.
