Read both of them.

Then after that, go read the "Galactic Exodus" series on fsnfiction.net

I read both of those trilogies. Both are good.

Heir to the Empire and its sequels are great. The Rogue Squadron books are good too if you're looking for smaller-scale stories.

And with that...pow! I'm gone!

First off. Fuck Disney. The original EU should be canon. Second while Kevin J Anderson is one of the best Star Wars EU writers you cant beat Timothy Zahns novels. I personally would read Heir to the Empire first then Jedi Academy because chronologically thats how they occur in the EU timeline.

Have you read the Thrawn trilogy?

If you want something totally cheesy, there's always Splinter of the Mind's Eye. It was written to be a low-budget sequel to Star Wars in case the first movie was a bust. Since it broke box office records, a different, big-budget script was used instead for the sequel.

Heir to the Empire. The Timothy Zahn trilogy is the Episode 7-8-9 we all wanted, at least at the time.

I havent really read much, if any, Star Wars media outside of maybe skimming some comics or skimming the wiki.

Mmm... I dunno. Does that mean you wanted more adventures of Luke/Han/Leia?

I feel like my dream 7/8/9 would have had a new team with a new dynamic exploring the galaxy. Smaller scale stories. I can see the appeal of Sun Crushers, but the threat just feels too big.

The only Star Wars novels I have read any of have been of the Han Solo Triology. I tried some others, but didn't dig them as much as the Han Solo backstory.

Read the Thrawn books by Timothy Zhan, honestly the best stuff he ever wrote and in my opinion the best Star wars books/story (including the original 3) by far.

If they had just gone with them instead of what we got:(

No it shouldn't. 97% of it was hot garbage.

Almost the entirety of the EU worth reading was written by Timothy Zahn.

It was a logical continuation of what we already had, so ... yeah, it was cool, especially for the time.
