like i said, you may be right that since trump became president, he doesn't want to bash powerless people in public.

the apprentice shows that he has no problem with bashing powerless people in general, though. given that trump made those comments in private, i could totally see him making them. (still pretty dumb of him to assume that nobody would publicly quote his comments, though.)

The awkward thing about offering a plan now is that he wouldn't be president until late January, and the plan would necessarily depend pretty heavily on how bad the unemployment/economic/covid situation is at that time. I think it's probably a reasonable guess that he'd go with something like what the House Dems are proposing if the situation remains more or less the same, though.

It really doesn't, or at least not in this situation. Republicans don't want any stimulus to pass, if they lose the presidency guess what that won't change. If anything it will just cement the fact nothing will get passed because they won't want to give democrats credit for something they couldn't do under their leadership.

There are way too many R Senators who are very against any idea of a stimulus and McConnell never has half the party side with the Dems to pass something.
