As much as exclusivity deals are generally bad for consumers, first- and second-party exclusives actually tend to be pretty good, since the platform owner is relying on them to convince people to buy their console and therefore tends to put more emphasis on making good games than on squeezing every penny they can get out of each release. A lot of Bethesda's recent bad PR has been a consequence of churning out their usual bug-laden messes, but without the decent games that are usually buried amidst those bugs because they were just trying to make cheap, heavily-monetized cash-ins. Get rid of that pressure to sacrifice quality for monetization, and maybe we'll see a return to the usual bug-laden messes that are still fun once some amateur fixes all of their problems for free three days after launch. --- This is my signature. Oblivion was even a timed exclusive when it first came out. At this point though, unless it is made by Nintendo I think exclusives are pretty much a thing of the past, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. --- I am a Contract Software Developer. Now, the primary reason for Rare's massive drop in quality was that a sizable chunk of their development staff - many of whom were responsible for some of their best titles - left the studio after Microsoft bought them, largely due to irreconcilable differences with the pro-sale folks.
