I don't necessarily think that this is an inaccurate description of how things are moving, but I think it would be wrong to say both sides should turn into the skid.

But we've seen the success of this type of politics on both sides. And I worry that this is the type of shit that is going to determine future elections.

I mean, its very blatantly republicans that have made it this way. They have taken the us v them approach for decades while democrats have approached things as us working with them

take for example Obamacare, which didnt have to have any republican input to get passed but they reached across the aisle anyway (and fundamentally fucked up the whole bill for it)

and now the supposed republican healthcare plan (LMAO) has been worked on with no democrat input

all it takes for the whole system to fall apart is for one side to have an us v them mentality

sorry it took me so long to get back.

i think it determined just enough of our last election, and i'm pessimistic and think it will determine the next; i think it will be a more effective means to get people to actually mobilize and vote than traditional campaigning. i'm not saying it's ethical, good, or that i like it, just that the terms have seemed to shift.

i don't like putting it in these terms, but if elections were a game, memes would be the meta. the left can't look for an honor duel when the right is willing to backstab you while you bow.

I know you dont want to hear this because its divisive as well but its also the answer: Republicans supercharged both the negative rhetoric they use to refer to democrats as well as their own partisan behavior during the Obama administration. Movements like the birthers, the Tea Party, MAGA Trumpism and most currently Qanon were born out of the strategy of, in their own words, becoming The Party of No.

And theres no real reason for them to stop because this far its worked really well. But, 100%, they are the heart of this issue: whether or not you like the Dems they are far too spineless even now to have steered public discourse in this direction
