The number of things that smell nice that I also come into contact with on a regular basis are utterly dwarfed by the number of things that smell unpleasant or downright awful. If it wouldn't also affect my sense of taste, I would easily get rid of my sense of smell if possible.

It can be quite useful if there happened to be a gas leak around you or something along those lines.

I would get rid of taste too, if I could. It would turn eating into a robotic acquisition of nutrients without having to worry about time-consuming cooking, yes please.

The smell of frying bacon, or garlic and onion. Or wine. BBQ. Car when it's been cleaned, or bed, or new clothes/towels. I love it

Getting rid of your sense of smell but keeping sense of taste just seems like a bad idea. Smell is usually what lets you know if something is going to be good or not in a lot of cases.

Me, too. Except when it comes to raunchy farts. My one friend has told me the only reason he's able to maintain a friendship with me (and not other people) is because I barely even notice his farts.

Fresh baked bread, coffee as it's brewing, soil right before it rains... gasoline (I know that last one is weird). I wouldn't trade my sense of smell for anything. I love walking into a kitchen or restaurant and being overwhelmed by the scents of the meats being grilled or veggies being sauteed.

P.S. Raw onion is ass on anything but salad, but it smells great when it's cooking

My wife has next to no sense of smell, and she gets really excited whenever she can smell something, even if it's not good. The smell has to be really strong for her. One of the only things she says she can really smell is coffee when she's in the coffee section of a store. Based on what she seems to go through, I think having no sense of smell is something most people would end up missing if it was over a longer period of time.

I can like a cooking smell, but not in any strong way beyond 'this is mildly pleasing'. I get way more enjoyment out of knowing that I'll be able to eat something I like soon than the smell itself. Conversely, cooking smells for something I don't like can be nauseating.

In general, even the smells I like the most don't go beyond 'mildly pleasing' status while the smells I dislike can be horrible to deal with. I had to room in a old, musty dorm in my first year of college that smelled gross and it was a thoroughly miserable experience. And I'm not a fan of really strong smells in general, even for stuff I'm normally okay with.

I have a strong sense of smell and really hate bad smells, but I wouldn't give up my sense of smell. Too many practical uses, and good smells are great, even if you ignore how it's a large component of taste.
