I am at the CS3 Final Dungeon so hopefully I can wrap this up soon and join you guys in CS4.

Of course, my new nemesis is that I think my controller's battery is dying/failing at maintaining a charge very long now so that's "cool." Worst case I can always play with it wired but the wire that comes with the PS4 is so short ugh.

You can use any Micro USB cable, not just the one that comes with the PS4.

I'm browsing the FFXVI site now, and the info they're putting out actually sounds really intriguing. The initial trailer didn't really get me excited, but reading the details of the story, the world, and the characters are definitely getting me more interested in it.

And now it's Trails of Cold Steel IV Act 1 time!

And we start off with a really cool atmosphere as we approach the Saint-Gral Labyrinth. I like that the Hexen Clan's world has a different look and feel to it. It enhances the atmosphere for sure. The game uses New Class VII's two week coma as an excuse for resetting our levels (although we only drop to 28 as opposed to starting over from 1, so that's nice!), and this is a place to help us get acquainted with the game again! Old Class VII has apparently set out ahead of us, but they leave Randy behind to watch over us. It's a little strange to see Randy being so mature after having seen what he's like in Trails From Zero...!

The Act 1 title is revealed: The Trials of Class VII. Sounds promising! Apparently, all of our quartz mysteriously and conveniently just fell out of our ARCUSes, so now we're back to basics here, too! Randy joins the party for a while, so that's fun. I'm half-tempted to just steal all of his quartz for New Class VII, but I'm hoping he'll just give it to us when the time comes since you actually can remove it! Maybe I'll keep a backup save on hand just in case so I know when to take it.

Anyway, as we fight, we find that our Brave Orders are less effective than they were before, and Roselia thinks we're being affected by Rean's curse.

Played the Hyrule Warriors demo tonight. It's pretty good. Combat feels better than the first one, and while I kind of miss the full-series fanservice, there's something appealing about this one being more coherent and actually in-canon.

More Cold Steel IV Act 1!

More fighting. When we reach the end of this section, Roselia shows up to fight us. She calls herself the last of the True Ancestors, whatever that means! I managed to hold out long enough to get the bonus AP, and now Roselia doesn't look like a little girl anymore! Apparently that was her original form before she divided her power to create familiars. She can basically just activate her true form in short bursts like Rean can. I'm kinda hoping this part doesn't last too long because I'm itching to get the plot rolling!

Oh good, thankfully they just skip ahead and they do all the training offscreen! Also in the area of things to be thankful for is that my wife wasn't paying attention when Roselia was groping Juna. Old Class VII contacts us with info that they may be close to pinpointing the location of the Black Workshop, which Roselia says they haven't been able to find in the 800 years since they split off from the Gnomes. Speaking of which, one of the shop owners says that the witches and Gnomes created the Divine Knights together in order to prevent another Great Calamity.

Anyway, the plan is to use singularities in the Spirit Veins to locate the Black Workshop, almost sort of like sonar. As I wander around the village getting the final things needed to take off, I notice we're all level 50 now, so that's nice! I've gotta say, I'm digging the new battle music, and the forest theme is pretty solid, too.

When we arrive back in the "real world," we're near Saint-Arkh, and New Class VII talk about how their first field exercises were here a mere four months ago. Wow, is that all the time that CS3 covered? Felt like a lot more! By the way, does anyone else rotate through all the party members when fishing and almost make it a "competition" to see which character sets the most records for biggest fish?

Anyway, once we get out of the forest, Altina senses that the higher elements are still in play, although to a lesser extent. Seems to be a side effect of the Great Twilight. Anyway, I made it into Saint-Arkh proper, and that's where I'm stopping for the night.

FYI all your party members need to survive to get the max AP. I missed out on max AP because 1 or 2 of my party members died to the S-Craft and I didn't realize that mattered. (Fortunately I don't really care about max AP and already knew I missed some in a later fight anyway, but in case you care about that...)

I mean, I'm not concerned with getting max AP for the whole game, but if they list the conditions for getting max AP in front of me, I'm going to try to get it!

Cold Steel IV started. And Prologue beated.

Huh, two things stuck out to me in the very beginning sequence showing stuff across the Empire. Machias's dad getting sent to Ordis and that girl in Alster saying the black wind was coming from the basin. At the very end of CS3, Machias's dad was having a secret meeting with Bardias in Heimdallr so I'm wondering if he's actually in on Musse's Rebel Alliance. Or if the fact that the Gral of Erebos stuff happening just kinda ruined whatever talks they were having - implied to be finding a way to oppose the Mobilization Law. Also wonder if his being sent to Ordis is Osborne being reassigning him to Antarctica by putting him literally as far from Calvard as possible since there was a rift between them growing over CS3. As for the Alster girl, pulling up the map of Erebonia shows that right nearby there is "Osgiliath Basin." I would have thought the source of the black wind (which is apparently still blowing?) would have been the Gral/Karel Imperial Villa but maybe that's where Osborne has set up shop? He was conspciously absent when Vandyck, Rufus, and Cedric were giving that speech (also think I spotted Emily and Therisia from the Lacrosse Club up on the dais with them.) Also did Shirley enroll at Thors? loooooooooooool

OMG Forget the team Lechter and Rean accidentally assembled at the Summer Festival in CS3. We've got a new BEST TEAM right here. oh ya my Estelle/Joshua/Renne/Lloyd/Elie/KeA squad. omg the crew having their original S-Crafts as normal crafts now. but boo at my man joshua no longer going "I will run... no more!" for Phantom Raid. unforgivable nerf. Didn't get the chance to force many linked victory quotes in this short bit but saw a cute Joshua/Renne one where he thanks her for saving him and she replies "What else is family for?"

Oh my, first instance where I wonder if carryover changes a scene and we haven't even seen Class VII yet. After best team leaves and Claire gets a phonecall, at the end she muses she hasn't checked her mail in a while and sees it's a message from Millum from two weeks earlier sending her a picture of her, Claire, and Rean getting ice cream from the Millium Bonding event in CS3 and she just starts breaking down crying. That wouldn't make sense to occur if you didn't take that bonding event in CS3.

Oh damn, Juna got sent to the sunken place. That warped dream world was pretty neat and lowkey creepy once it switched to the dorms and the nameplates are all blank except jarring cases like Ada replacing Tita's at Musse's room. I gotta say though New Class VII looked really good in the main campus uniforms. Gonna be sad that that's probably either a NG+ costume or DLC at best.

Eryn was a pretty nice place. Though if Emma could have just warped to the bottom of the Gral like that it might have helped CS3's endgame if she just sent the full Class VII there to start with! Also, argh Laura's voice change. At times it's just close enough to her original voice that I'm like "well that's probably the best recast they could have got" and then other times it's just off by enough to mess with me. Juna's speech to chew out Old Class VII was great too, loved the emotion in it. Altina had some good moments earlier too when she was remembering what happened.

In the closing cutscenes, lol Vita just casually going into soft recruit mode for Musse. "Well, I'd enjoy meeting the Grandmaster." hmm you know, i think CS3 was the first game in the series where Ricky and Anton were no-shows so i think that theory is tracking more and more as the evidence mounts. Over at Ouroboros/Gnome joint HQ or wherever that was I like to think Celine was just sitting there watching Rean thrash about for the whole two weeks before finally getting fed up and knocking him out with that spell. Also lol Crow trolling Duvalie the legend continues.

Okay, Halloween is my wife's favorite holiday, so I ordered her some themed flowers for the occasion. They were supposedly delivered while I was at work, but when I got home, they were nowhere to be found.

So I called and discovered that the delivery guy had left the flowers with one of our neighbors. I don't get why you would do that. We have a big box next to the door to put packages in when we're not home.

The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 1 complete!

Really good episode, with a very cool battle at the end. It'd be nice if every episode was that length, but I imagine it'll just be the premier and the finale!

All right let's get CS4 Act 1 started. I'll divide this up between stuff that happened up to Leon's last update and then the bit past that I went.

oh my god guys you dropped all the quartz. all my beautiful quartz and equipment. i had 17 abyss shadows! give them back! Brave Orders got nerfed hard. Oh well. R2 Field Attacks automatically starting the battle is cool. Weirdly I think that only occurred with like two enemy types in the Gral of Erebos in CS3 unless it was some weird level difference thing that triggered it. I remember it being jarring when it happened during my replay. Also nice that Altina can just whack everything but big enemy types with her normal field attack to stun them regardless of positioning. Roselia's S-Craft was pretty cool. I also loved the whole colorless deal that happened at the start and end of the labyrinth. Could have done without that hot springs nonsense with Roselia though.

NPCs in Saint Arkh were interesting. I was pleasantly surprised to see the team react and hold their own conversations among themselves discussing the NPC chatter and its implications. It's also kinda funny seeing New Class VII run into people like Fiona but neither side knows who they are. Really Altina should probably know but I'll let it pass for now. Also really neat to see some of these Active Time Events where Class VII reminisces on the field exercises like remembering where they found the cat for that quest. Wouldn't have put Kairi down as first Thors student we find but one Juna suppression technique for his breaking and entering later and so it is. I had figured Pablo was somewhere in the area based on the NPC talk in Instructor Mary's family's house but apparently so is Tatiana but they're in Parm. Tried to head to Dreknor Fortress but Neithardt and Alan parked a tank and Panzer Soldat like 50 yards from the city limits so we nope'd out. Okay out on the south highway and darn the fishing minigame is a bit harder now. I think this was the first time I have ever failed it. Partly because I was asleep at the wheel because it's always been super easy but also it's just harder yo.

Yeah, CS3 started in April and ended in July. As for fishing... not quite... While I do let everyone have a few turns, CS3 was mainly a fishing battle between Rean and Altina for me. Rean would do all the fishing at Leeves (because only he can) and times when New Class VII wasn't around while Altina would usually fish on field exercises and they would battle it out that way.

Music has been great so far, yeah. Really like the battle theme and some of the field/highway themes so far. Eryn drawing from Mourning Refrain (CS3's Ending Theme) is really cool too. The boss theme for Roselia did the same but was obviously faster/more intense than Eryn.
