For example, say I dont want to take the flu vaccine or the COVID vaccine and my employer decides to require it of every employee

Is it legal to fire you if you refuse to take it? My wife told me that they cant do that and you can sue if they do but at the same time.... its hard to sue a company if we live at an at-will state

I wore a mask everywhere and I got the (regular) flu. Friends of mine wore the mask and still got CoVID. It reduces the chances, doesn't eliminate them entirely

Yes, absolutely depending on the job. At a health org I worked at it was required to get the flu shot if you work in any hospital. Ive heard most others here require the same.

A few others too. Pretty much any correctional facility will likely require things like TB shots and stuff

Well they can work from home and teach their own children while they deal with the measles outbreak they are responsible for. You can live and own property, but no one else has to be comfortable having you around. They need to decide what's more important: sticking to their beliefs or interacting with the public. It's 100% their choice.

"Your body, my choice" is the exact opposite of the bodily autonomy argument. Making everyone deal with the reintroduction of preventable diseases to satisfy your beliefs is like forcing a woman to die so her child can live.

You can't force every individual to vaccinate directly. But you can't force everyone else to deal with them either.

Some fields can, actually, because you would be refusing to follow the established safety protocol in place for security of staff, clientele, and site regulations. And the institutions will typically side with the employer in those cases.

I mean you can try suing, but...don't plan on winning.

So it's only "my body, my choice" up until the point that the government forcibly injects you with whatever substance they deem fit. If you just admitted that you don't support an individual's right over their own body, your argument would be a lot more reasonable.

Here in Australia, "religious exemption" is only worth the paper it is written on. If you're an anti-vaxer Christian, for example, and you want to enroll your kid in school, you have to get the kid vaccinated. Your personal beliefs go out the window if they put other people at risk.

I mean think of it in the reverse.

You have the right over your own body that, if you wanted to, you could willingly inject yourself with bird flu.

Of course, nobody would be in the wrong for not wanting to be within 29 and a half foot of you. >_>

For some, bodily autonomy has a little asterisk next to it. And yes, complete societal ostracism unless taken is it being forced on you.

I just wish these types would stop using bodily autonomy as an argument, since they dont actually care about it.

Why is it so hard to understand that normal people just don't want to get fucked in the ass by someone else's decision? Nobody gives a shit if an anti-vaxxer wants to not get vaccinated and die. If they all want to go and start a community and die together we would be PERFECTLY fine with that. Go start an anti-vaxxer mcdonalds. Go make an anti-vaxxer move theater. We don't care. Just stay the fuck away from normal people. Stop affecting other people with shitty decisions. I agree with this but the covid vaccine was seriously rushed. Vaccines go through years of safety testing before they can be approved for use. This could be one of the "the cure is worse than the disease" type of things.

The fact that the entire world is working on and providing funding for this vaccine is probably going to help accelerate the process a fair bit.

Refusing to get vaccinated isn't a protected social class.

You might very well have an exceptional immune system, but statistically speaking you are better off getting routine flu shots.

And regarding feeling bad after a flu shot, you're listening to a self-selecting segment. If you get a flu shot and don't have side effects or get sick, you're not going to really talk about it. I've gotten flu shots essentially every year since my last chemo treatment almost two decades ago, and I've had a mild adverse reaction maybe twice. And I say maybe, because one was definitely the pharmacist just fucking up sticking me, so I just had a boo-boo.

No one can force you to get a vaccine, but it would be pretty silly to force people to hang around you. Bodily autonomy doesn't exist beyond your skin. You can set yourself on fire, but you can't force people to allow you near their clothes and gasoline. "I choose no vaccines, so you must accept polio." That's not how it works.

Freedom is not forcing everyone to sacrifice their freedom so you can enjoy yours unimpeded. This wacky sovereign citizen-type bullshit is getting way too mainstream.
