Thank you! When I do the comic I'm going to go with a simpler look but save illustrations like that for the important scenes

I appreciate you tagging me. I haven't been doing much serious, but I did start something earlier. It'll take a lot more effort to make it look nice, I think. And then I'm not sure it's a good idea to post it. >_> I'll see how it goes.

Where I'm at so far. A lot of corrections need to be made because I'm not happy with it. But I'll spend more time on it.

Edit: Also I know the lines don't look straight. Thats because I've rubbed out and sketched a dozen times. Once I've got the form that I want down, they'll be drawn in much more smoothly I hope.

This is probably fine to post. While my proportions are arguably better than usual, the different pose and materials makes some things, particularly the right leg and arm, be a bit ambiguous as to whether it is done properly. The sag that should be there might not be properly implemented, though I tried. I might have to look harder. I want to try coloring this for real, but I'd have to clean it up, especially the danger points, the hair, and the face. I'm still no good at making clean lines and keeping them as such.

I'm not sure what medium you're using but i found to get good unbroken lines you try using your whole arm instead of just your wrist. That being said, your pic is looking fantastic.

I owe you another sketch later when I have my ipad.

I appreciate the compliment (and everyone elses). My real issue is less getting clean unbroken lines (though that can be hard), and more that when I try to correct my lines, theres some left over, so I generally either erase too much, or dont notice other parts to erase. I feel like there should be a good solutions. Maybe just make 100% sure that I have the lines I want first before inking? Or maybe just take more care in erasing.

It's a little bit of both. If you're planning to ink the drawing then you want to do your initial lines very light or with a lighter pencil. Like I said, it's all in the arm motion so you want to make sure you have plenty of space on your work area to move your arm around to get those solid, unbroken lines. As an example, here's what my last drawing looked like it its "sketch" phase.


As you can see, they it aint pretty. I usually do the really light layer, then the still sketchy, more confident layer, then I do a REALLY confident layer with clothes, then the actual pen layer.

If I were to translate that to pen and paper, I'd probably do REALLY light strokes for my sketch layer with a soft pencilm then I'd go over that softly with a darker pencil with longer strokes, then lastly I'd do my pen and erase the pencil. Of course too when you add color it helps to get rid of the pencil marks as well.

Happy accident.

Everyone seems to be drawing Y'shtola from FFXIV now I might do that too. I rarely draw anything but my own characters so it might be a neat change.

Its crazy how much art has come out of FFXIV recently because of its boom. All over twitter, reddit, facebook ect and I've been saving them all.

Why would you hate that? I think the anatomy looks great! The only critique I could think of is some shading and to add the back part of that skirt!

I think most people end up hating their art after more time has passed. You stop seeing the good or the improvements youve made, and only see the current flaws. Rather than let it discourage you, try to let it motivate you. As Fable said, I think it looks fine. Dont be too harsh on yourself.

Thanks. Everyday I look at it I see more of the perfections and imperfections.

Also its strange because a lot of my pictures look a lot better in person. Whenever I take a picture with my phone and upload it, it actually looks worse on screen. Maybe I'll go downstairs tomorrow and scan through all my pictures, see if that changes it.

Had a blank notebook in front of me on my table for a long time, but didn't pick up the pencil.

I need some inspiration for who to draw. Maybe I'll Draw Den chan. I promised to draw her one day and send it to her, but I'd want to get better.
