Despite critics savaging yet another video game adaptation turned movie, Sony's Uncharted is overperforming with a 45M 4 day take when analysts were only expecting a low to mid 30s 4 day for the Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg film!!

Some rivals even think it could hit 50M by weekends end as audiences showed up in the primetime hours between 6-9PM...

In comparison, Kingsman: The Secret Service did 41.7 on its 4 day take back in 2015

Audiences also liked it better than critics 88% vs 39% and cinemascore was respectable at B+ and shows a 79% positive score

Tom Holland has been on a roll lately with his highest grossing film ever, Spiderman: No Way Home passed Avatar's US take with 772.1M and nearing 2B worldwide

I can't think of anything else significant that released this week. Did it have any competition? Probably not surprising it dominated depending on what else released

It's a super popular game franchise with a super popular actor and barely any competition and during the "end of COVID" people were gonna flock to it.

I might watch it when it hits streaming, but I'm not going back to a (movie) theatre.

I honestly can not think of any movie that could get me to go back to a movie theatre, especially since they stopped doing the IMAX pre-show.

30 or 40 years ago, when he was still in his teens (maybe even early teens), he attacked some minorities while shouting slurs, something he's apologized for countess times over the years -- and never repeated -- yet people still like to troll by bringing that up, because apparently the fact he's been an upstanding citizen longer than they've been alive is negated by his indefensible behavior as a teen, where again, he was punished and clearly reformed.

The next day, Wahlberg harrassed another group of mostly black children (around the age of nine or 10) at the beach, gathering other white men to join in racially abusing and throwing rocks at them.
A seemingly unrelated second incident occurred two years later in 1988, when Wahlberg attacked two Vietnamese men while high on the drug PCP. He called one man, Thanh Lam, a Vietnam f***ing s*** and knocked him unconscious with a five-foot wooden stick, while punching another man, army veteran Johnny Trinh, in the eye later in the same day. Officers reported that Wahlberg used racist slurs to describe both men.

Is there more, or less, anal in Uncharted then The Kingsmen?

That would have a large effect on if I'm surprised or not.

45 mil is over performing? Are they going off like post covid #'s now? This seems like a movie that would have done 80-90mil back in 2019.
