Yeah, I like Bleach.

Especially if were talking about the manga/excluding the anime filler.

I don't hate it like I hate Naruto, but I don't like it either.

I don't really have an opinion of it. I read the first 3 volumes of it 10 years ago and I don't remember a thing about it.

I watched a bit of it when it first came to [as]. I liked it to a point, but it just did so little to advance the plot in any given episode. I didn't even make it very far, I think the last episode involved Chad (and maybe Orihime?) fighting some Soul Society captain. Just a lotta standing around explaining what their abilities did if I recall correctly.

I remember preferring the earlier episodes before they went to the Soul Society because it was just way more interesting than every captain explaining what their sword did.

It's strange. I watched like 70 episodes of that, and yet I remember pretty much nothing besides some death/battle/spirit bone mask and what the main character looked like

I liked it until the last two seasons when they introduced the Bounts.

Yep.

Definitely has flaws but it's my favorite big dumb shonen and nobody does character designs with mad drip like Kubo does.

Bounts were filler arc vampires led by Troy Baker back when he still did anime dubs.

I started watching it late last year. It's been a few months since I got around to finishing it though. I'm in the middle of the arc where he has to protect a princess from assassins. It's getting kind of long and repetitive. I like some of the characters though.

Not really. I liked what I watched of it, but didn't care enough to watch past the soul society arc.

I just remember when the side characters got hyped up with new abilities and then did basically nothing as usual.

I really liked it. But I read it where most people watched it. I get it, its more hype as an anime but it was too slow for me that way.

Bleach at its core is the ultimate Asspull series. Its fun because you want to see how Ichigo powers up each time but the cast expands so much that it becomes great to see who has what power and who can out crazy/ridiculous the other.

Im so glad the final arc is getting animated because thats when some amazing payoffs story wise happen for everyone. The Bankai effects just go off the scale and thats not even mentioning how the prime antagonists uses their powers!

Ass bleach? Absolutely.

Yeah, I kept up with it right alongside naruto and one piece during the ol' big 3 era, the mid 2000s manga fan scanlation craze.

I'm also annoyed the there was a ton of characters who never showed what their bankai was about, which was like one of the main reasons to even be into the series like that. My favorite character yurouchi never even used her zanpakuto/soul slayer or whatever period (yeah, she has one. Was seen with it in a flashback, that, and she was a ex-captain):

Actually that was always one of bleach's dumb habits....every other character was always hiding their power for......really stupid reasons. "I don't want to use my totally awesome zanpakuto's TRUE power because my squad has a unwritten "just trust me bro" rule where everyone must have a melee type zanpakuto". lmao

Eh, this particular character's reason was at least established well ahead of time and fits his personality as well as that of his friends. There are other times where it's way sillier. Bleach is awesome, but it's definitely one of those shows that throws a lot at the wall to see what sticks. There are dozens and dozens of significant characters and maybe around a third of them are awesome.

That said, the ones that are awesome are really freaking awesome.

It's stylish and I like the art, but the writing isn't that great and it definitely peaked early. Still, the last arc is going to get animated eventually, so I'll probably watch it.

Honestly, captain komamura had to be the most self-aware and extremely competent captain in the series with his kind of personality. That is why he couldn't have the most super awesome maximum zanpakuto lol....if this dude had like, the captain commander's bankai he would have dealt with all their problems in like a week or something.

Komamura tore his own heart out to win a fight against a jobber, even though it turned him into a dog afterward.

Any number of captains could have killed her without doing that, thus saving Komamura's humanness. The guy was one of the shittiest captains.

Nah. Bleach falls apart once it goes to Hueco Mundo which is super early in its run. Even before that its an extremely generic shounen that gets by on its art style alone.

That is bad judgment, not lack of power. He turned into a dog because he was an idiot.

I was when I was like 17. My opinion drastically shifted when I was around 19 and has remained since. I think Bleach is dogshit, and was dogshit the moment the Soul Society arc started.

With his character, if the guy had any of the other most busted captain's powers like the captain commanders, he would never even have been in a situation to turn into a dog in the first place since he isn't the kind of dumbass that likes to hold back his power or sit there bragging about how great he is like the majority of other characters with busted powers (every other panel in the captain commander's fight with the one quincy dude was him just talking shit, lmao. Its what bleach characters do....talk shit, and sometimes it ends up badly for them).

Dude would just blitz whoever need blitzing going all out from the very beginning and be down with it, which was the entire point of him stomping that whale arrancar mook. The exact moment he laid eyes on the bomb quincy chick/bambietta I think her name was the first time those dudes invaded she would have been fried instantly/those bankai stealing things wouldn't work on a soul slayer like that.

Give the man shinji's bankai if those novels are supposed to be canon or whatever. Bleach is packed full of dumb-asses and dog man would make vastly better use of this stuff compared to the original owners.

It was stupid for Shinji and Komamura to even go after her. Kenpachi, Byakuya, Mayuri, or even Soi Fon could have destroyed her, probably without bankai.

I liked it more and more as it got away from plots and just leaned into a lot of cool fighting/power ups

Knowing her, she would've refused to use her bankai for most of the fight, and then when forced to finally use it, she would've missed anyway.

But yeah, as for Komamura, he is one of the more pragmatic and straightforward captains (he actually starts off in bankai most of the time instead of dawdling around out of "pride" or whatever nonsense), but a lot of the scuffles in the final arc were for the advancement of actual character arcs more than anything, so he had to fight someone who would be a bad match up so the story could develop him.

the powers in bleach were weird because there wasn't any one concept tying them together like ki in DBZ or chakra in Naruto. shinigami, quincy, fullbringer, visored, etc etc. they were literally just a grab-bag of random superpowers with little-to-no explanation behind them or how they interact with one another. it felt very incoherent in that regard.

the total lack of backgrounds was really annoying too, i think like 3/4 of the series' scenes took place in a generic Blue Sky And Brown Terrain setting.

The "tying concept" was generally just "the power of your heart." All the powers were basically just manifestations of the characters' personalities, so you ended up with a wide array of random abilities.

Soul Reapers put their hearts into their swords, Hollows wear their hearts as masks, Fullbringers can bring out the hearts of other objects, etc.

It does take some reading between the lines to make sense out of some things, though.

All the powers ran on spiritual energy so that was the ki equivalent.

Nah, they have reishi/reiatsu/reiryoku (basically spirit particles, spirit pressure, and spirit energy) and pretty much every ability is in some way an offshoot of that. It comes in three distinct flavors-- shinigami, hollow, and quincy. That's the basic lineup right there. Fullbringers are linked to hollows in that their parents in some way survived a hollow attack and the hollow spirit energy was transferred to the child.

I liked some of the characters and abilities, but ultimately got bored of the series and dropped it at some point towards the end of the big Espada fight (specifically after Stark and Haribel went down like nothing).
