I dont really understand how there's both parallel universes and also time travel going on tbh. It doesn't make sense to me. Like if green goblin goes back fixed, then that radically changes Tobey's life. He's untested Spiderman at that point and loses to Venom?

That's part of why I wasn't fond of NWH

It felt like they were leaning too much on nostalgia and that it was just a mini-Spiderverse sort of situation rather than truly being it's own thing

Even without talking about the movie's reliance on continuity and fanservice, it has some pretty bad pacing issues. There's a good movie in there somewhere, you probably just have to hack away 30 minutes to find it.

They did a good decision having garfield's spiderman be self-deprecating with low confidence. I actually found myself liking him more in this movie than I ever did his unlikable douchebro personality in asm 1 (and to a less douchey extent, asm 2)

I don't understand comments saying how shocked they were at how old Tobey was. I thought he looked really good, I was surprised. After 20 years I was expecting him to look overweight with a beer gut and not flattering in a skin tight spider suit but (whether it was cgi or not) he looked pretty damn perfect as an aged experienced Peter Spiderman. I was very pleasantly surprised.

Same with Doc Ock. I hate that I was spoiled with the incessant rumors and news articles either speculating or confirming who was in the movie, but I was expecting Molina to look too old however he looked perfect as well.

Willem Dafoe most definitely looked older and it added to how sinister he looked. He was more terrifying without the mask than he ever was with it. And that subtle purple-green suit combination that was clearly a reference to his comic/cartoon form lol. I liked that.

I figured they were caking on the de-aging graphics for Alfred Molina, but no, turns out he just aged that well, lol. I don't know the full behind-the-scenes story here, maybe they had to touch him up digitally a little, but I did see an on-set photo of him after the movie and thought 'holy crap, good for him!'

Overall the movie's flimsy, but there's only one reason why I risked Omicron exposure to pack my butt into a theater seat for the first time since the pandemic began, and that was me wanting to see (the very strong likelihood of) a McGuire + Garfield + Holland teamup before it got spoiled for me. And apart from a couple minor / arguable missteps, they absolutely nailed that aspect of the movie.

They had no idea what to do with Lizard, but they really improved Jaime Foxx's Electro in this one. He was evil, but... way better than asm 2.

Funny that they made him more like his comic book version here too with the yellow sparks and the star mask look. It literally felt like they were trying their hardest to make comic book nerds orgasm in the theater with all the references

All the spidermen interacting was amazing. High-key one of the best parts was all of them just lifting each other up support group style and saying how they're all equally great. It literally felt like this was for all the internet people who constantly bash one spidey while touting the other as the best one, and I love that the movie said "to heck with that" and made all the spiderbros pick each other up.

Yeah the premise was absurd and you didn't even have to think about it for a minute to see all those holes, but it really didn't matter when those 2 showed up. That was... yeah.

It's still way too surreal for me that this happened. I actually watched a movie where the MCU made a multiverse where they can bring in any movie into the fold.

What's next, bring back Wesley Snipes as Blade or a Blade Snr for the new Blade?

This isn't the first time I've felt that way. The party scene in Avengers 2 was the highlight of the movie sad it might be to say and I'd just watch an entire movie of stuff like that no question.

The issue is that if they were sent back to their home universes as-is, it would literally be a death sentence for all of them. Spidey's goal here isn't so much messing with fate as much as it is figuring out a way to cure them so they don't have to die upon return. He wants to save these villains, not kill them.

I think ASM 1 at least was great. Especially if you see some of those deleted scenes that just ruin stuff like The Lizard. ASM1 at least is at least on the upper half of Spider Man films.

But also, no offence to Tobey or Tom, but Andrew Garfield is kind of the best actor of the 3.

I guess it technically is a sinister six movie? Lizard, Electro, Dr Ock, Green Goblin, Sandman... and Venom?

I didn't watch that garbage venom movie from a few years back and didn't even know that's what they were referencing until he dropped the black symbiote goo on the table, but yeah I hope they don't go with that version. Even That 70s Show Venom is oscar worthy by comparison

This is the second time the villain was more intimidating out of costume than in it. First it was the stellar Michael Keaton giving an absolutely terrifying performance in Homecoming when he was driving Peter and Liz Allen on the way to the prom, then it was Willem the foe here.

Weird that they made him more of an arch nemesis to tom holland spiderman than they did tobey spiderman, who outright saves him from being stabbed by tom's spidey only to then be stabbed himself

When Tobey completed the most famous line in comics for Tom, and he looks up at him... that honestly got me back into the movie when I was previously wavering just like Tom himself.

You know what else was a great decision? Having Tobey Spidey show up in street clothes, especially in comparison to Andrew Spidey come out in spider suit. That was a detail I really liked as well.

Almost felt like a meta nod to the general opinion that Garfieldman was a better Spidey than Peter and Tobeyman a better Peter than Spidey.

You know who was a great casting choice in an otherwise garbage movie? Felicity Jones as Black Cat. It's a shame she never saw the light of day and they honestly should bring her back like how they brought back Matt Murdock as Daredevil. I literally just finished watching Hawkeye too. So the possibility of bringing the same actor for a character role is on the table.
