Which fries, as of 2022, are the best?

I tried stick with mostly national chains, and traditional fast food (as opposed to fast casual).

Arbys

I voted Popeyes, but KFCs are probably the best I think.

Arby's curly fries > all other fries

Chik-Fil-a have fries? Last time I was there, they had these criss-cross chip things

Checker's (which have all closed down near me) or Popeye's

McDonalds are honestly some of the only fries I actually like. Because they sort of exist as their own thing.

Most other chains feel like they're trying to be like "real" fries, but wind up being an inferior version of them, so I judge them more harshly for it. Like, on some level I'm always thinking "I can make better fries than this at home." Doubly so because I'm not really a fan of crinkle-cut or curly fries or waffle fries or potato wedges or other odd types - I mostly just prefer straight shoestring or steak fries.

Though I do like steak fries if I'm out at a more restaurant-y place.

Those are waffle fries, which are just a different shape

For regular fries it was Burger King before they changed the recipe. Now its probably McDonalds.

But for me the real star is Arbys curly fries.

I really like the fries from Culver's, but they're a relatively small chain (878 locations in 26 states).

It's McDonald's. It'll always be McDonald's. Their fries are perfect as long as they're fresh.

Arby's and Wendy's new formula they came out with a couple years ago. They're a bit crispier now and good.

I do enjoy Five Guys and the malt vinegar, but they're soo fucking expensive who cares. I could go to main street and get the famous ocean drive Burger baskets for what they charge. And they have them good good onion rings.

Arby's crinkle fries blow there curls out of the water.

Assuming they are fresh, from that list Popeyes.

However best fries from fastfood places are the curly fries from Jack in the Box.

They seriously are the most overrated. They're mid tier fast food fries at best. Arby's, checkers, chick-fil-a, Wendy's all have better fries

Although A&W and Wendy's are great.

So, Popeyes is probably the only place to double down on a seasoned fries alone. Backyard Burgers I believe has the best seasoned fries, but I am not sure if they are regional or not.

Burger King has always been my favorite because they have a great crispiness without being burnt. Apparently they changed their recipe? I used to put them on my Whoppers.

McDonalds are tasty and classic. They are relatively bland though.....but they are still hare and I beat. The balance of greasy to crispy texture, temperature, and salt is IMO perfect for the price range.

Wendy's are wayyy too hot since they made their lockdown friendly version. The craziest thing though is that I have a cat named Wendy that only likes Wendy's fries. She will go full Solid Snake to get them.

Arby's are good, but taste similar to Backyard Burger's. Their zesty sauce is the bomb though.

Sonic.......who doesn't get tater tots at sonic?

Rally's/Checker's are in the same realm as Backyard Burgers or Arby'. Similar. Good enough that I'm willing to risk being shot to get them

Hardee's/Carl's Jr are okay, but I his is a franchise that has kind of an stagnated. Every other places has tried to offer unfrozen beef, not needing to rely on bacon alone for flavor. I have not had their fries in about a decade though....so maybe ... ummm..I dunno it is all fuzzy to me.

Chick Fil-a ....I know these are kind of controversial for many, but I think they are right in the middle. I like the thick potato-y quality of them. Also, they are a really good shape for dipping into delicious Chik Fil A sauces.

Taco Bell...one time they ran out of regular crispy potatoes for that specific taco. They put nacho fries on my taco instead *chef's kiss. I told them it should be a menu staple.

Where's Whataburger, Jack in the Box, and Dairy Queen? All 3 of those are bigger than Checker's/Rally's afaik. Fresh Whataburger fries are my probably my favorite fries.

I thought Whataburger was only near Texas?

I thought about Dairy Queen, but in general people thought they tasted like soot and poo, so I decided not to include them.

As far as Checker's/Rally's, over half of the country has them, with a few states having over a hundred of them.

Checkers/Rallys is just a slightly worse version of Arbys fries

I vote potato oles at Taco Johns, seeing as how the definition is stretched already.

Right....but you will have to explain how concentration in a relatively small area makes them a national chain.

Same with Jack-in-the-box.

As far as DQ goes, I didn't include them because so many people said that their fries taste like soot and poo. It seemed like a waste of a slot.

In-N-Out is a California based franchise. There are a handful out of state, but it's mostly CA.

I've only ever been there once... coincidentally because my friend really hyped the fries. I thought they were okay, not bad, not great.
