People use to say the sun is a god riding his chariot across the sky. Would you, in that era, claim to say Well, I see a bright thing up there, so it must be true!?

The point is that you believe what those before you have explained to be the truth of the world. Be it science or any other explanation. Without you verifying it for yourself. That is belief.

I've studied many times the evidence by evolution proponents and evolution critics. The evolution proponents, including Darwin, have always been shown to be fatally wrong in their descriptions.

It would be possible to group up in a cult-like fashion, but I dont think there are any such actual groups in existence to use atheism is their main selling point. In terms of outspoken or smarmy people, they definitely exist, but the reasons for their combativeness are usually fairly different. Trying to compare that to religion which is much more unified is kind of pointless.

Why do you trust that the thing you see is a planet? You see many things in the sky. But you trust stars are stars, the sun is a sun, planets are planets etc.

Science, in itself, is something constantly changing.

The Apollo analogy is just to highlight how facts can still be belief.

You have a belief in what current science has given explanations on for observable things in life. You yourself have no proof. You can point and say Thats the planet Neptune but its still because you believe in the current scientific findings.

Im only saying to believe that gods dont exist is a belief as well. Whether its based on science or not.

Hopefully that makes more sense.

If atheism involved meeting in groups of other atheists to be preached to by the head atheist on how to be a better atheist, I would reject atheism.
