was pretty chill at the polling place we went to, wasn't hardly anyone there, either, which i'm not sure is a good or bad thing.

my state typically runs red except for the major cities, like usual, and it's mainly chicago keeping the state blue overall

I'm proud of my area for consistently not being insane. There was a Republican and a Democrat handing out papers for their candidates and it looked like they were friends. Other areas of the country lose their shit but in my area people generally respect a peaceful attitude.

It will probably be to a lesser extent because of the lawsuits and the fact that they're probably going to do pretty well this time around (people are just going to look at inflation and blame the dems), but that won't stop it all the same.

It's crazy how different it is place to place. When I lived in a rural area outside the city, it generally took about 60 to 90 minutes. Now that I live in the city I walk in and out in three minutes.

Never said you did. It's just that alts always seem to show up on a fairly regular basis, so I rarely exert all that much effort trying to figure out who they are or remembering whether or not someone used that alt before. So whenever I see a low-karma account appear out of nowhere - and especially if they seem to know things that imply they've been around for a while - I tend to wonder who it is.

I just want to live in a world where everyone has to put their main identity in their signature on every new account so I don't have to put in the mental effort of solving a new mystery every couple weeks.

Republicans are frothing at the mouth because young people had the fucking gall to vote in their own self interests. And now they are demanding the voting age be raised to 21. Too bad for them the constiution guarantees the voting age is 18, and there's pretty much no way that's ever going to change.

Its weird. Even if they got the voting age changed, who says itll be enough to get more of their votes. And wont the ones who they made not old enough be old enough by the next election? And if they changed it and still got less votes, would they try to raise it again?

After the 2020 election my conservative family members and friends would not shut up about how the election was stolen, and we need a civil war or the country to break up, or this that and the other thing.

After this election, silence. Not a single one of them has said a thing about this election. They know they fucked up by supporting Trump and his cronies.

Ideally they would realize they need to tone it down. The other option is to use the supreme court to unleash the power of gerrymandering, and then we can keep going down this rabbit hole until something really ugly happens.

Ideally they would realize they need to tone it down.

Ideally, but we've seen basically exactly that with Canada's conservative party: O'Toole made some efforts to be more moderate and win over some of the Liberal voters (noting that the Liberal party here is a left-leaning moderate party, with the NDP being the more solidly left-wing one, but it's not like the US Democrats are exactly far-left), but that ended up not working because the Liberal voters weren't particularly interested in voting Conservative and the more extreme right-wingers jumped ship for the PPC. O'Toole has since been ousted as party leader and his replacement is leaning much harder into the flimsy populist rhetoric that modern conservatives seem to want.

I'd say, sure: raise the minimum to 21, in exchange from capping voting at age 65.

democrats did it way back against bush.

The 2000 election came down to a difference of literally 500 votes and specific inaccuracies were identified that warranted further investigation. Wanting to recount that is very, very different from proclaiming from the start of the campaign "the only way I can lose is if they cheat" and maintaining that rhetoric even after winning (as a means of explaining losing the popular vote), throughout an entire presidential term, and throughout the entirety and aftermath of another round of campaigning that resulted in a loss, especially when the actual margins of defeat were orders of magnitude larger than 500 votes and all subsequent investigations revealed either no errors/foul play or errors/foul play that only benefited the GOP.

I'm sure you think you're being very clever with your "both sides" rebuttal, but the situations really are not comparable in the slightest. Trump's behaviour for the entire time he has been in the political eye has been nothing more than a spoiled brat propping up his ego so he doesn't have to face the fact that he lost legitimately, even when faced with the fact that perpetuating that lie has single-handedly driven numerous mentally ill people to violence.

That, and there WERE (verified) counting irregularities and suspicions, never mind the very to-this-day controversial decision of the Supreme Court to come in and stop the recount (it's not clear if the SC even has the authority to do that, but this country treats the SC's orders as gospel).

Compare this to the 2020 election, verified as the safest and secure on record, and which was exhaustively review as the counting occurred. What voter fraud occurred was insignificantly small...and was done almost entirely by Republicans. Apples to oranges as it gets.
