First WC goal against Wales since Pele

Dreadful first half from us. Our lopsided midfield is hurting us so bad, and Ramsey and Bale both don't have the legs to win challenges anymore, unfortunately. Lots of pace in this US side and we aren't dealing well. We have some decent options off the bench in attack and always have a chance from set pieces but I'm not too optimistic right now.

We allowed them way too much space on the ball and they've been able punish us.

Wales should test Turner more. I haven't been convinced by him in our Europa games, so it feels like pressuring him with shots or pressure could force an error.

Every time I watch soccer I am reminded how much I hate flopping and stoppage time.

As someone who only tunes into soccer during world cup...I feel penalty kicks are too OP. Like, he wasnt even taking a shot when he got fouled. It looks as if he was passing it back. I understand the location of the foul and everything, but still.

With that being said, a bit of a boring match really. Very few targets. I felt like the US played too cautiously in the first half when they were dominating. While Wales had a better second half, it wasn't as dominant as the US's first half. They got bailed out by the penalty kick.

This analysis brought to you by a non-soccer fan who probably has no idea what I'm talking about.

The group is really interesting now. If England beat America and Wales beat Iran on Friday then England and Wales could play out a draw to both qualify.

Probably a fair result. The US had one dominant half and Wales had one dominant half, but neither had a ton of chances. We need to play like we did in that second half constantly, though. Playing as scared as we were won't cut it against Iran, let alone England or if we make it out of the group. Negatives aside, it's fuckin surreal to see Wales score at a World Cup. I genuinely never expected this in my lifetime. Smallest team population-wise to qualify for the tournament against the biggest. I think we're set up well to have a shot at the last 16 now, much rather play England last than second.

Enjoyable game, decent result (I'm neutral).

One problem with football (soccer) I noticed compared to other team sports I watch is that the players so often seem to be in the face of the referee complaining after each decision which goes against them. It seems so disrespectful. If I was them I would start yellow carding for that kind of behaviour.

Well put it this way if the score is level going deep into the second half i wouldn't be surprised if the game suddenly dies.

They had ZERO cohesion to start with and were disjointed as.

Although looking at it England would only need 2 draws to still top the group barring Iran shocking everyone by winning their final 2 games.

To be honest though, the point is still serviceable. For instance, watching the NFL games, if it's in range, I'd rather take the field goal over the 4th & 1 play, or in the situation of the after touchdown play, take the extra point over the 2pt conversion, unless of course it's a *no choice* decision.
