IThe game has like no replay ability, cause there is no real difference between picking playing as a good or evil character, your choices really don't matter, every dialogue option is literally nice guy, smart ass or greedy. The faction you pick barely even matters. Who cares if you pick the Minute Men over The Railroad or The Institute over the Brotherhood. There are no major gameplay consequences.

It's a decent game if you consider it a looter shooter. However, I'd still rather play borderlands or destiny 2.

Ive heard settlements can be fun, but it seems a bit lame to me. And some say survival mode makes it much funner and more impactful.

If you're friendly with the Brotherhood you get early access to Vertibirds. As for who to pick at the end of the game, if you go with the Minutemen it's possible to keep all factions aside from the Institute around.

But, in general, Bethesda usually leaves any 'choice and consequence' gameplay to their DLC. Far Harbor had a fair amount of that. If you want you can basically make that place uninhabitable, or choose to inform the Brotherhood about the Synths there and have them raid the place, etc.

Haven't played it and have no plans to. Loved Fallout 1 & 2, especially 2.

Out of the newer ones I like 3 more than New Vegas (though it's the better game, for some reason I just enjoyed the Capital wasteland more).

Would love for another game like the first two.

Compared to NV, definitely. I still think it's a pretty fun game despite its flaws and I've had lots of fun with the settlement building too. I know that's not a lot of people's thing though. The combat is a step up for sure.

Not better than New Vegas but still better than 3 and seems to get better for me...Maybe because the companions in 4 actually feel like characters compared to the rest...That's one thing I'll always say FO4 did better than the rest

And as for choices matter...It's weaker than Fallout NV and FO2 but Fallout 3 was basically 'Saturday morning evil' Because the only reason evil thing to do in 3 was detonating the nuke which ultimately doesn't do anything in regards to the story

Story choices are shit.

But I modded my game to oblivion and basically made huge settlements with hundreds of raiders/civvies with a population/economy. Then had raiding parties where I'd go to locations against other enemy NPC's and it'd be all out war.

Was so fun with all those mods.

The best thing about Fallout 4 was its gameplay. I loved the settlement building, and the gunplay is really good in it. I like the modding and customization aspect of your equipment, but it lacked imagination for lack of a better term. The story is shite, and the DLC isn't much better. The best one is Far Harbor, which is at best a reskin of a Fallout 3 DLC. Fuck the Automaton DLC, screw the Fallout Shelter DLC, and especially fuck Nuka World.

Fallout 4 can be fun if you download a bunch if mods for it. Once i did that, there is no way I'll ever go back to playing it without them.

But yeah Fallout 4 is a decent sandbox shooter but a terrible RPG game.

It's not a great game but it's fun enough. I regularly play games that are probably worse but still good and fun, so I'm not going to act like F4 is just awful. It's playable and the glitches and bugs are whatever to me. Is it as good as NV? Not even close, but I still had fun with it. The only thing preventing me from playing it again is that the intro just feels too long and boring at this point, I probably need a mod to skip it.

Good summary. I agree with all points. I like many aspects of Fallout 4, but the dialogues/decisions were disappointing. The lack of skills, too.

All the love I've wrung from FO4 is mostly by ignoring the plot and just dungeon-diving and grinding. The settlement building stuff also brings me back, but even that is submarined by needing to have a friggin' water farm empire to fund it, plus needing to be postapocalyptic Einstein with max Science, etc. to build all the good stuff. I hope FO5/ES6 keeps that part and improves on it.

To be honest, I think my favorite things about the game are the lack of level cap and the selection of free mods that are supported and work. With the previous fallout games, I felt like there wasnt much point in slowly enjoying the game after hitting the level cap. With FO4, you can literally keep playing as long as you want to. I start to get bored and then add a new mod for new weapons or something. Its like a never ending game if you use mods (which is so easy that its listed in the start up menu).

From Bethisda's perspective 4 was the follow-up to 3 as they were both their games. As good as NV is it isn't a Bethisda game so it was never what it should be compared to in their eyes (heck, they have been trying to act like NV doesn't even exist). And in comparison to 3 was an enormous step upwards. The linear level design was cut back, the dialog was improved, etc. It just feels as bad as it does because to players NV is thing to compare it to, not the maligned 3.

I will say this "Your choices don't matter" is true but a universial among video games

Fallout 3 and New Vegas were even worse. You can flat out nuke the NCR, The Leigon or both in New Vegas for example and the gameplay consequence is.... No one even mentions it and the quest continues as normal

I'm kinda mixed on this topic because while Fallout 4 could have been so much better than it was (The aforementioned identical dialogue options, no car. Fucking Fallout 2 and Tactics had a car but 4 can't!?) etc.

I still feel like it's a great game and the best in the series by far. Most of the hate seems to come from the fact it's Bethesda more than anything else. Wev'e already seen seevral users in this topic go "ohh grrr goly gosh! Gee! Bethesda! booo!" as their problem with the game. It had a lot of improvements and innovations

  • Vast improvement to V.A.T.S
  • Enormous improvement to companonions
  • Power Armor actually is a whole new game mode.
  • Ability to just leave and walk away from conversations at any time
  • Ability to loot without having to open a menu (A small change but in a game where you loot every 3 seconds, it's SOOOOOOOOOOO Much better for immersion and pacing. It's hard to go back to the old stop start system)
  • Vastly improved and responsive combat
  • More vareity in the map
  • Fucking literal Jet-pack!
  • Enemies that are more human/responsive, talking about their comrades dying, having more reflective idle dialogue. You can flat out encounter raiders crying over a grave for example
  • Enormous amount of random encounters
  • Codsworth actually says your name
  • There is a trememdous amount of detail in things most players don't care about (You can spend like 20/25 minutes at the start finding out exactly what happened to vault 111 and I'd bet over90% of players just run straight out)
  • The whole settlement system which in turn actually makes a use for the Junk Items that litter the wasteland
  • Non preachy LGBT representation including Poly relationships

You can tell an emormous amount of love and affection went into making the game, it has soul.

If Black Isle or From or Obsidan made it, Nerds would love it a lot more.

It has a weak dialogue system, the atmosphere takes a severe hit in order to improve the combat system, choices largely don't matter.

Those are the only real major criticisms which while all valid are hardly unique to Fallout 4.

I enjoyed it.

There's defo mods that reduce the costs of building to 0, that allow for bigger settlements and improve settler happiness

No idea about premade towns

This is called "Sim Settlements", I think.

It's a cool mod where settlers will build unique towns at each location.

It was cool for a while but I play on Xbox One and the cities will get too big and crash the game. I'm sure on a good pc it's awesome.
