Yes and no. Some of them are fun and interesting, but the "You missed one item at the beginning of the game and are now locked into a no-win scenario" and "You clicked three pixels to the left and a half-second too slow and now you're dead" aspects of their game design kind of suck.

It's why I tend to view LucasArts as the #1 point-and-click adventure game studio from that era. They focused a bit more on having fun and telling interesting stories than on punishing players and making things excessively hard to encourage people to call the Sierra hint-line for clues.

Pretty much this. Old Sierra games were usually pretty obtuse and the ability to get stuck in a no win scenario hours into a game if you miss something early on is just awful design.

Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis was the best game from that era, hands down.

I have a soft spot in my heart for King's Quest VI. Played the hell out of that game when I was younger.

Yeah; I've played the King's Quest series (save II and V) and a few of the Space Quest games, and had a hoot with them. I also really enjoyed Half-Life.

But when it came to point-and-click adventures, I preferred the Indiana Jones and Full Throttle games from LucasArts.

...speaking of Full Throttle, it's funny how this portion of the game mirrors the dude's entire gimmick:

That game looks like a love letter to one of the least obtuse AGI games, The Colonel's Bequest.

Actually, I kind of want to play The Colonel's Bequest again. Last time I played I barely missed out on the best ranking because I missed one thing.

I think once they did away with the older, typing engine and made everything point-and-click like the Lucas Arts games, it made the games way more fun. I still like some of the typing ones and have nostalgia for several of them, but I would never recommend them to someone looking to try out action games for the first time. They are so obtuse and unforgiving you need to have a walkthough open in order to get anywhere.

Love the Kings Quest and Space Quest series. Started with Kings Quest IV and V, and Space Quest IV. Those are the only ones my big brother had. A friend of mine borrowed Kings Quest IV and destroyed the manual so I had to reset until there was a question that I remembered in order to play it.

Absolutely.

Though I do have a really soft spot in my heart for the original Gabriel Knight game, and I'd probably rate that as a very close second.

I love old Sierra games. Empire earth was one of my favourites. The community was amazing. To this day some of the friendliest game chats I can remember having online. Empire earth 2 releasing was a sad time.

But TIL the community found a way to survive and even released a new patch this Christmas with the hope of expanding the community. I'll have to check that out later.

I'm nostalgic for them, but like PO said some of them hold up better than others.

I'd check out that one you linked if it came to Switch or PS4 but I wouldn't lose sleep if I never got a chance to play it

I remember working through the babel fish puzzle as a kid. That is far from the worst puzzle in that game though.

Hero's Quest/Quest for Glory was my favorite Sierra series.
