Starting off with some brand new content, as in this never happened in the games. Good shit.

Well they didnt have to shoot the monkey theory down like that given everything they put into the first game.

Might be able to catch it later tonight. This is supposed to be the standout episode so I'm pretty excited. I'm sure Nick Offerman will be great.

Well they couldve saved that reveal for the end tbh. Worked better in the game, didnt need all this but whatever. Ive watched all 4 seasons of Spartacus so Im not phased.

How long does it take for it to be available on HBO Max or can I watch it live there?

Looks like bills arc will be two episodes at this rate. 35 minutes left and Ellie hasnt met him yet.

Yeah this is definitely an entire episode of entirely new content that wasnt in game at all. Its not bad by any means but I really did want more Ellie and Joel then anything.

Oh wow this is quite a big change from the games honestly. Ellie never met bill at all in the show. I preferred bill in the original honestly but this isnt bad. Also means we wont see a bloater song like I expected since they didnt go to the school.

Well I just finished, next episode is Sam and Henry meeting up with them in the city.

Its a good episode, episodes 1 and 2 are 10/10 for me. It can be not as good as good and still be good. The game fan in me is just disappointed with no bill, ellie and joel. He had fun chemistry with ellie

Eh I guess my thinking is like yeah they had good chemistry but this is just... better than that stuff.

HBO probably realized they couldn't top Bill and Ellie's frienemy dynamic from the game so they went with something different

Big departure from the game but I do like it a lot more than Frank leaving Bill, getting infected then hanging himself

That episode sucked. They are going wayyyy too far away from the actual game.

I hope things turn around next episode but after the first 2 excellent episodes this was a big disappointment.

I mean going off the stuff being said by the creators on the Behind the Episode and the podcast, you can expect further character-heavy divergences from the games going forward so if that bothers you this might be the point to bow out.

Wow the whole sequence between Bill and Frank

Was absolutely beautiful.

Easily the best episode so far. Might even be one of the best "zombie media" things ever. Don't think the rest of the show will hit this mark again tbh but I'm open to being proven wrong here.

I realize I'm making a bit of a reductive response rn but it's kinda my go-to when talking about people disappointed in differences in adaptations

Just play the game if you want those setpieces and moments. I'd rather the show take divergences to flesh characters/events out in a more emotional manner than have another episode of "pew pew zombies"

Getting the whole school sequence in live action would have been cool as hell, but this was really freaking great too.

For the action side it looks like we should have a lot next week.

I think that this episode is easily up there with the best episodes of television ever made.

I can see how someone unfamiliar with the game might not connect and feel that Joel and Ellie needed to be around for more of the episode, but for me, it was perfect. It was so, so much better than what the game did.

Welp, cant imagine theres anyone out there that still thinks its a 1:1 adaptation of the game.

Haven't watched this episode yet but this sort of stuff makes me so excited for both the ending and Part II. It has the advantage of not worrying about gameplay pacing and also simply being able to adjust things with a retrospective to make them have a more intended impact.

Yeah. Like I get it if it's way to far out there. Even though I've never played the games, just keeping with the Bill and Frank characters, I could see people getting mad if Bill was played by the Rock and "Frank" was "Frankie" some hot big titties model and they both lived and fixed up a plane and flew away.

The one thing I didn't like about this ep was Joel explaining the cause of outbreak. Could have been done more organically like they were already building up to with the hints throughout ep 1 & 2. It felt like he might as well have just been looking directly in the lens explaining it to the audience lol

Other than that it was a 10/10 ep.
