clothes i disagree with though. speaking as someone who makes low six figures, i go to the grocery store in a bathrobe and sweats all the time. unless im with company, i couldnt give a damn what i look like when i go out.

i get im probably an outlier on that front though

this one actually depends. I know lots of people who work 2 jobs who dont have any kids or many expenses and they end up using money from their other job for their savings.

Lol no, I'm solidly middle class, about 2 years away from my house being paid off. For 17 years I drove my busted ass 2001 Cavalier. I finally retired it when it hit 314k miles and the AC went out for the third time. Why? Because didn't want a car payment and the car worked fine. It got me from point A to point B, which is exactly what I needed it to do.

Clothes don't really mean shit either. Unless I'm going somewhere that requires it I just do jeans and a t-shirt everywhere.

Pretty sure if they are throwing all their money away on clothes and cars it is a good way to tell someone is broke / in major debt. These are among some of the worst things you can invest in.

Not tossing your stuff simply because it's "outdated" is how you keep money.

Perhaps some folks dont put all their worth in cars and clothes.

People who are well off tend not to put a lot of money on depreciating assets. Broke people are the ones who can't afford to miss work because they're living paycheck to paycheck because they have a 72 month $800/month payment on their car.

This goes back to 1976.

I once knew a bloke who drove an old beat up car, wore clothes that were torn and tattered, lived in an old weatherboard house that looked like it needed a good coat of paint about 5 years or so before looking at it and needed a good upkeep of the garden. He was a multi-millionaire. The inside of his house was pristine with no expense spared. To people who didn't know him he would appear a pauper with very little to his name.
