Still haven't got a next gen console. Still on ps4 and all the games I want are still on it and not so much on next gen vs having to rebuy the same games and paying $500. But Starfield, Fable, Avowed > Spiderman 2. The rest of the games are basically the same. And the Series S is half the price of a ps5. It depends on what else is coming but not many games that are exclusive. It basically comes down to marvel games and naughty dog if they ever make a new game vs Bethesda and Obsidian. Xbox wins that and it's half the price . If you take out marketing and 4k which i don't need anyways. I'll probably just buy a Series S this fall if Starfield isn't a flop.

Wish we had more info on the new Perfect Dark.

I'm afraid Starfield is going to be a flop. I'm not buying until that comes out and I know it's good. It looks too good to be true. That other star wars game looks better and is on both consoles I think. I still see no reason to buy a new console at this point though. ps4 was an annoying gen but I can still play Red Dead 2, GTA, Wticher 3. Fallout 4. Arkham Knight. ps4 really just has more games than ps5. Cyberpunk sucks but ah well.

I'm pretty sure when Phil Spencer comes out and says that even if Starfield turns out to be one of the best games ever made, they've already lost the generation you should take it as a clear sign that Xbox is, in fact, not winning.

There legit isnt a reason to own a Xbox. Starfield being 30fps is just further proof of that. Why own something so gimped when you can at least build a pc that can run it properly.

There's not really a reason to own any of the modern consoles unless you really want shiny graphics for a lower cost. Most exclusive offerings haven't even come close to system seller territory, and the general console ecosystem is doing it's best to nickel and dime people on every possible front with subscriptions.

They've probably lost too much of a lead now but if Starfield hits they're at least in a position to regain some momentum that they haven't had in a long time.

Sony are porting all of their games to PC 2-3 years after launch. The only exceptions are probably gonna be Astrobot, Destruction All-Stars and the PSVR2 games.

Xbox isn't restricted to the console these days anyway. If you're buying their games or subscribing to Game Pass on PC you're still giving them money. It's cool they give the option not bad.

if you want one system, sure, spend a fuckload on a nice pc.

if you want a low price entry with a fuckload of games, xbox is a good choice. you can emulate on it, you can get game pass.

A PC with a GPU that outperforms x and ps5 is more affordable

A console is only ~$200 in savings if you never want to play your games online and are fine with lower graphics settings. If you play your games online it's far more expensive to own a console

What does the ps5 have that makes it worth $500? ps4 has more games and is a better console as it stands. Series S is half the price if i want to play games at launch. 4k is the most overhyped unnessary crap ever imo. All i care about is games and what games I can play.

Plus you have to rebuy all your games and these companies are literally preying off that. These next gen versions are shady as hell. Seriously so you can change the resolution. That's about it.

Tbh the goal is to make more yearly revenue instead of just better hardware sales.

No idea if they'll get there without Activision but we'll see.

Complaining about console online sub fees and how it ends up more expensive than keeping a PC gaming updated is a bit overblown.

While the baseline price of ps plus is 59.99, you can regularly find price drops for a year sub throughout the year that can go as low as 30 dollars or just 10 dollars off at 49.99 at sites like cdkeys, amazon, or sony theirselves usually has them on sale for 25 percent off around when the summer of play starts (I think the 25 percent thing via psn just ended on the 12th).

I myself usually wait until they drop around the 30 to 35 dollar range and just buy like 2 or 3 to stack them up. Assuming I spend 35 dollars every year for seven years when I see it for that price (which I have had no problem doing up until now), that comes out to 275 dollars every 7 years. 528.00 dollar PS5 (what I paid for my disc PS5 on release day+tax)+275 dollars=803 dollars total that is going to last me and entire console generation. PCs is comparison, especially if its the one in that pc partpicker link is going to have to get its CPU and GPU upgraded/CPU from every 4 years or more/GPU every 2 to 3 years to play the more demanding games with a reasonable performance as the generation goes on.

At the end of the day yeah, I would of course prefer to pay nothing to play online because who the hell wouldn't, but at the same time finding the subs on discount doesn't exactly come close to all that expensive.

This is the problem with your thinking though. The goal is for "them" to make money. As a gamer Xbox is winning. This is why you shouldn't buy marketing. Series S is half the price and has more games. So just using that logic against you.

Difference between a sheeple and a smart consumer. Like i said Starfield, Avowed, Fable > Spiderman 2. Yet ps5 is selling more and is twice the price. Go figure. This is the thing to me is I'm not buying the hype. I think 4k and youtube it's big business bullying marketing practices is full of it and it's unnecessary. I'm just looking at the games. It's not a big difference but the games I want to play are on xbox this gen.

I don't play final fantasy either. So it's basically spiderman 2 vs Bethesda and Obsidian like I said and Fable. Playstation has been losing exclusives for years where Microsoft's exclusive list actually looks better to me.

So for me spending 250 dollars on a series s makes sense and my ps4 vs spending on a PC when gaming is pretty much dead anyways and not worth that much money anymore.

These consoles are not worth it. Neither is a high end gaming pc. 4k is marketing at it's worst. I can get a Series S for 250 dollars and still play all these games and get the same experience minus 4k.

All of those games you listed are not exclusive, they're on PC.

Tbh it does seem like 2024 is gonna be a dud year for the PS5 first party wise. So far it seems like the only potential game is Wolverine and I dunno how likely that is. I have no interest in their GAAS stuff and that seems like a big focus for them next year.

But Xbox had their dud year in 2022. Basically nothing major between Halo Infinite and Starfield which is a long ass time when PS5 was still releasing some great stuff. Just had Hi-Fi Rush which I overall really enjoyed but it's not really enough. That's a critical time for them to have had nothing to push the needle. They kinda blew their window and I don't think it'll matter for PS5 as much as it mattered for Xbox.

But I think they can gain momentum quite a bit if they start to finally consistently release games. Things are overall looking pretty good. Especially as a fan of RPG's. Looks like they're going to have a major one every single year.

I think the issue with these topics is winning is always defined in some nebulous way. So it doesn't have to sell more because it's winning due to some other criteria. I guess the PS Vita won my heart, so that was a good effort.

Console players will buy consoles to play games. Doesn't matter if they're on PC. It's a different market.

Xbox's problem is they haven't released enough system sellers at all. Not that they're on PC.

Most of Playstation's first party games so far are also on PS4 and that hasn't mattered to them either. People still bought a PS5 to play God of War Ragnarok even though they already have hardware capable of playing it.

Unless you wanna imply that everyone bought a PS5 to play Demon's Souls and Returnal which is a bit laughable?

Will they get there? Dunno. But it's more likely than focusing solely on hardware sales.

Again this isn't a universe different than Playstation who released a whole bunch of crossgen games 2 years into the generation along with late PC ports to keep up that revenue. It's not all about hardware sales and nothing else.
