The Teamsters, the union representing 340,000 UPS employees, authorized a nationwide strike as of Aug. 1. The vote does not mean that a strike will happen, but it gives labor leaders the right to call a walkout that could paralyze the economy if a contract deal is not reached in negotiations by the end of July. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters said UPS union members voted by 97 percent to approve a strike. The UPS contract negotiations could have sweeping implications for the U.S. labor movement and the economy. For decades, the UPS Teamsters contract has set and raised standards for workers around the United States, ensuring a path to the middle class for many Americans who do not have college degrees. Meanwhile, a strike could have devastating consequences for an economy that is increasingly reliant on its delivery infrastructure, with an estimated 6 percent of the countrys gross domestic product passing through UPS delivery vans each year. The trucks have supposedly ten year lifespans except these are the first set of EVs so less. Meaning this is all intended to cause pain. So even though the concept of AC in a UPS truck is fundamentally flawed and unworkable (the truck stops every couple of minutes and turned off) it wouldnt even apply to anything covered diring the current contract. They always ask for higher pay; they get paid fine. There are cameras pointing at every point of the cab that matters.
