I think overall once they're at that level the debates get overall rather meaningless. You can see Elvis and The Beatles gradually lose popularity as their main demographic ages and dies off. Same thing will eventually happen to MJ when we are old farts.

Swift is the big pop star of our day and she'll have a long lasting legacy too. Don't really think much else matters really. Who knows what the future will bring.

To make a random comparison Taylor Swift is 33. When MJ was 33 that was in 1991. He had a lot more of his story to go.
