Damn that's nice. I heard Altergeist became a more combo focused trap deck. I've seen mixed opinions but seems they're pretty strong. I dunno why people complain. There are enough summon 1-2 guys set 4-5 pass decks already

it's definitely a creature combo deck now, fish+pook or netter+fish/faker/pook ends on ridiculous boards, and it's lowkey all because of the addition of wisp. people at my locals HATE "trap decks" because they are smoothbrained, but nowadays it doesnt really play like a trap deck. it still interacts like one once it's set up, but ultimately it is a combo deck. if it opens a marionetter line it folds to a single veiler/imperm, barring one for one in hand.

definitely a super fun deck, though, and i traditionally consider myself a control/trap card player and shy away from combo decks.

It's not even worth running in Gaia decks because Gaia doesn't even run the original Dragon Champion. Both retrains only become Gaia The Dragon Champion while on the field so it's completely useless.

Between this and that other "Gaia" Fusion they released, I'm really hoping he gets some actual support soon...

Hop Ear Squadron + a Bystial (or Driver if I also happen to activate Gamma earlier in the turn) means I can make a Baronne omni-negate (via Accel Synchro Stardust) on my opponent's turn 1 while going 2nd, which is hysterical. Even without that though, the deck has so much disruption and so many board-breakers that it can OTK or at least inflict solid damage and make a 4-material Zeus (via Utopia Beyond).

If you're going 2nd, set Albaz, contact fusion into the funny guy, is a pretty decent option. If you ever wanted to counter Bagooska, Virus Swordsman is also an option, but it's unclear how big Bagooska is in the current meta. Things haven't changed THAT much since the last meta so certainly something that's possible

Tried my PUNK for the first time in ranked, met a Thundra-PUNK-Tear Grass pile.

Went first without disruptions, ended up in Sharakusai + Dragon Drive + Madame Spider on field, 2 PUNK traps (one searched, one via Extreme Session draw), a Called By, a Regained that I hard drew, and Maxx C.

Pile dude opened, in sequence:

• Normal'd Diviner that I negated with Dangerous Gabu
• Allure banish Thunder Dragondark whose effect add Dragonhawk but I reflexively returned Dragondark back via Regained for one draw (lol drew Maxx C)
• Foolish into Kelbek that I Called By'd.
• Foxy Tune effect in hand, sending Plaguespreader into Ze Amin summon that I popped with Nashiwari Surprise
• Deer Note in their hand effect, summoning another Ze Amin in their hand that I yeet back (along with Diviner) with Amazing Dragon

My disruptions were nuts, but their opening was also nuts. I honestly groaned the moment I saw Deer Note reveal Ze Amin.

I think I zero'd my entire PUNK luck with that.

edit: realized that I could've got another draw via Regained if I banish Foxy Tune with Extreme Session to summon Madame Spider instead of Deer Note.

Yeah you can interact a bunch, their interactions are pretty fair too. It kinda feels bad whenever I have to Sharakusai accel synchro for just 1 card, or they negate/destroy/tribute Sharakusai. To think I used to just PEP pass with this deck lmao. I thought it sucked back then but PEP pass is so much worse than Sharakusai/lvl 8. Even better if the lvl 8 can negate

Honestly, them being fair is what stops them from being tiered. But it's also why specific people who really took the time to master this deck do so well with them regularly

I'm at 42 cards PUNK.dek right now but that's because I put HFD and Monster Reborn in it, with 4 Lv 6 Bystial + 2 Lube + 1 ea of Regained & Beast .

I think I'm fine with this arrangement.

There was a thing today that Tasuku and Josh both decked somebody out. Tasuku brought a millable pure variant of PUNKs and milled them out with the Maxx C activation, vampire xyz, and summoning a bunch of times

Saw some Dkayed YT shorts of the WC.

Imperm column accident happened in WC, after the update that made the lingering effect visible, is truly something.

Tho tbf, the lingering fx is a bit too blending with the duel field.

Yeah of all people, it was Jesse Kotton, one of the winningest NA players of all time

So uhh... you can view all the stages on MD natively for the current WC.

Lots of really fucking good duels but uhh... Tasuku has been cooking up some mad shit. Like his groups stage PUNK build was wildin so hard. He ended up with like Protos, Baronne, 18 cards for Snow in grave, Elf protection. He ran a version of a really early popular build with PUNKs that I forgot all about, which is Nemeses PUNKs.

Also the freaking finals for MD has Joshua Schmidt vs. Jesse Kotton?! On fucking Master Duel? If anybody told me this was gonna be a thing last year and some when MD was new, I would've flipped my shit. This is so crazy. One of the most winningest players in EU and NA in the finals

I'm sad my boy Tasuku didn't get to the finals, but he had to run Exosisters and went 1-2. I feel like his Nemeses PUNK had way more powerful turn 1s. I guess they went with the greater good and kinda paid a bit for it

Josh has been playing his favorite deck, Naturia Runicks. Honestly, the guy just plays that deck like a symphony. He really doesn't miss a beat and even summoned a fucking Trishula that basically won him a game. I mean man... ngl this is possibly one of my favorite competitive shows in a long time.

Sadly the current stream is doing Duel Links first. Shockingly, no Japan across all 3 formats, no OCG players in top 8 of physical, no Asian players in the finals of MD. Looks like the existence and non-existence of Maxx C threw off a lot of players.

It's an intensely skillful match. Meanwhile Josh had like 8 cards in hand vs. his opponent's total 3 card count lmao. He's on Naturia Runick so yeah that probably wasn't even close.

AND A HUGE DROPLET FROM JESSE makes Rulkallos run into Dharc

A double Snow activation for Jesse saves the duel because he's prevented a Dharc summon

What a play. Yep, it's probably over. Sprind sends Merrli, Jesse summons Kit for the full combo.

Both players had basically the full Tear board at each points of the game.

This might've been one of the best games in the entire tournament. I don't think either player misplayed the slightest. The craziest difference maker here was that Jesse had Snow and Quantal didn't. Jesse brings back the Snow for one last attack. Jesse Kotton vs. Quantal. You guys have to watch this VOD. It's absolutely nuts

It's 3-3 between the teams, so now it comes down to the last match ups. Tears are expected to win their respective match up, though Josh is against Jesse next I believe. Meanwhile there is a Labrynth mirror that may decide the final result.

This is such an insane finals. Honestly for the coming future, I feel like Jesse is just gonna be a part of at least one of every single NA team in the coming future. Though Jesse might prefer to go to the TCG WC

Raye (NA, Spright) vs. Quantal (EU, Tears) is going badly for Raye. Raye's lost his whole board except one face down. Meanwhile Quantal has legs. I believe it's basically over. Josh vs. Jesse might not even matter

Josh just set up a Pisty 2 arrow point, which probably means Josh is in an incredibly hard winning position. He can extend even further if he kills Redoer

MEANWHILE QUANTAL GETS THE LAST HIT, which means 5-3, Snipehunters are the first MD WC champions!

Uhh... are they not gonna finish Josh vs. Jesse though? lmao. I believe Josh actually fucking won it vs. Jesse Tear. Would've been a huge statement to do it 6-3. That's lame if they're not. Yep, sadge but they ended the duel prematurely. Jesse probably would've lost as he played the last interaction vs. Josh who still had a lot of gas in the tank

Instead of playing Tears, Josh is shedding a bit of tear on stage. That was a beautiful series, and Joshua Schmidt is now the first person to win a YCS multiple times as well as a MD WC. He was a World competitor 4 times for the TCG/OCG WC, but he has yet to win it. I'd imagine that is his next goal

Also funny because China has their own Duel Links, with their own different card releases and meta. You'd thought they'll be the one to have trouble the most considering the tournament doesn't use their Duel Links but the global one.

And yes, Rush Duel is coming to Duel Links. Which some people already expected considering there are hints towards it already, from datamining. Like Rush card frame set-up, and summon trigger data for Yuga, Romin, Gakuto, and Luke's ace monsters.

Tasuku's WC PUNK list. It's mega cookin'. Hard to copy this list for practical usage because it's probably made this way to be oppressively good going first (and takes into account the whole 3 copies per whole team restriction. PUNKs rely on hand traps, and he basically only has Maxx C on this). Summons way more often than the regular PUNK list, and nobody was running Nibiru for some reason.

Replacing Instant Contact in favor of a summonable lvl 2 tuner to take advantage of the maxed out Bystials is delicious. Wa Gon and field being dropped feels bad but this build is just not that reliant on the lvl 3 tuners

Yeah, that's clearly a list made for this specific WC, not for regular usage.

Fenrir went into nearly every deck in existence. He searches himself, giving a potential discard fodder on turn 1, and on mid-long range decks, a stickiness every turn in case of a board wipe. Just being on the board means an interaction most of the time. The opponent has to deal with Fenrir or their combo is over. He's also lvl 7, which means any decks with a ghost girl hand trap can just pump out a Baronne turn 1 at the worst

Semi-limit doesn't do much but it does severely hurt the power of being splashed into random decks. I think a lot of people underestimate semi, but because MD is about playing a bunch of duels and being consistent, semi actually does hurt his power without straight up killing him.

Next level play from Tasuku. I believe he's claiming here that an additional benefit to running the enemy mill variant of PUNK is to get information on his opponent team's decks, which is why he often led with it.

Though it also meant his team's Tear builds weren't running the mill Ishizus. Also explains why his PUNK usage went down over time and he played mostly Exosisters, since they had full information eventually

All right, got it. If I feel like splashing Fenrir into any of my decks later, I'll just craft it along with Chaos Angel and Azalea.

I have a bunch of gems sitting in my gift box on my main account that are going to expire soon, and since I don't feel like pulling from this pack and don't have any decks in mind that I want to build, I'm just gonna pull from the Sky Striker secret pack and see if I can luck my way into a royal rare.

No royals, but I did manage to pull a glossy Zeke and a third glossy Kagari to complete my playset.

Nice, Danger Dark World is always fun, and now competitive to boot. Their modern combos might be overwhelming even for an ex-Wind Up player though.

Oh no I didn't play wind up that was just the most recent archetype at the time. I was playing dark world back then. Lightsworn and gladiator beasts as well

Yeah I played around that period too and quit when Fire Fists came out, which was a bit after Wind Ups. I mained Six Sams long after their big banlist, and Chaos Dragons, the structure deck version. My Chaos Dragons were heavy on Lightsworns

Couple questions as a new player who will be f2p. What's the best use of gems? Like is there pack deals from time to time or should I just start buying packs? Also is the duel pass worth it?
