Currently at

66 shrines
45 lightroots
371 korok seeds

Obtained the Master Sword a few days ago and also stumbled across where I assume the final boss is

You played this game incorrectly lol. I mean I was probably only two dungeons in when I hit the 100 hour mark, but I also had the two most useful powers in the game because of them (north west and north east dungeons - did the north west dungeon like 10 hours in as the game expects you to).

180 hours was my time for beating it. Now at 280 or something wild like that. Basically did everything I wanted to do, like all the side adventures (but not all the sidequests, no thanks) and of course all shrines and all lightroots. Also maxed out my inventory slots which is 100%ing the Koroks in my book. I could never find the last damned Sage's Will though and that kinda irritates me still!

E: And the dungeon bosses will be way easier and less intimidating if you're already beating King Gleeoks. Those are much harder than any dungeon bosses.

Like fallout 4 I didn't even go to Diamond City until I visited every other location on the map

How long did it take you until you went to Lookout Landing?

I went over when I realized I couldn't use a lookout tower, and had to leave two shrines because I didn't have a parachute.

we only knew it would be in the game because they said amiibo would unlock new patterns for it. They never showed it prerelease outside of that context I believe

I mostly agree with this, except the ability from the northwest dungeon (and really the northeast dungeon, trying to not use names for spoiler reasons) is so damn useful. Also I just thing splicing in the dungeons makes for good variety.

But yeah, this game is mostly a giant sandbox that cannot be played incorrectly.

This is ridiculous. My rule for Bethesda games is to scour the map and take everything as I find them. It took me a bit to get to Diamond City, but I hadn't cleared the south and east 5/9 of the map first.

The game really, really pleads with you to at least go to Lookout Landing and Hebra before dumping dozens of hours wandering so I definitely feel like there's an obstinate streak in everyone who chooses not to. Still definitely an option to play that way but I definitely feel like the reasons the game pushes you so hard to at least acknowledge those two areas are strong enough that at least I'd really regret not doing them sooner if I ignored them.

I will say the wind temple was a neat experience

Definitely more in line with what you want from a Zelda dungeon, but still kinda on the short side unless you include the Mario 64esque journey to getting up to it

This is almost my experience, but I listened to the advice to do the Wind Temple early on so I did that with like 3 regions explored.

Since then though I have been exploring the entire world before doing anything else LOL. Finished up my Sky and Surface explorations. Working on the Depths right now, probably 60-65% done there.

a lot more than 100 hours lol. actually i assume the switch tracks the time somewhere? i may be afraid to look. the hero's path gauge looks like 80% full or maybe a bit higher if that means anything.

I don't think that's true. I think they're just more durable. I can get through them just fine.

My general rule of rock smashing is:

The normal brown colored rocks break from one bomb. The blue ones take two (assuming you throw the bomb at the same spot each time.) It was super early in the game for me, like first day or tw, so I may be remembering this incorrectly but over at Hyrule Castle I think there may have been like... black rocks or something that took even more but even they broke after enough bombs were thrown at them, though at first they were so beefy I almost gave up initially.

The only rocks I think may be genuinely unbreakable from just throwing bombs at them until they fall are the weird ones at Death Mountain that look like they're tainted by Gloom or some other weird red thing. But they're only there and I can maybe count them on one hand. Though I think a shrine is behind one based on radar pings.

I can't remotely imagine going through some of the caves in this game without northeast dungeon ability. Those would take an eternity to get through (and you're gonna break way less of the rocks which means less chance of free gems). And my inventory did not miss the forced slot of a rock breaking weapon.

Crazy to hear that one section of black rocks at Hyrule Castle is breakable with enough bombs though.

Eh, blue rocks are fairly uncommon like Leon said so it's not that bad. With Autobuild you could also set up a Zonai Cannon as a demolition device and favorite it so you can recall it on command provided you have the Zonite to do so if you don't want to waste bombs or take up a weapon slot for rock breaking. (Though I keep a dedicated slot for that you could also have weapons pull double duty here because all types of Moblin Horns also apply the "blunt/rock destroying" property to weapons while also allowing them to be viable in combat)

And yeah, that one patch of black rocks is super strong. I actually did walk away the first time thinking it was indestructible at first, but on a return trip when I had more bombs I learned they're just super durable.

took the time to unlock all the great fairy's and farm materials and max out the gear I'm using.

Eventually just going to go for the whole Wild set just like the end of BotW, but I only have the Wild Cap for now so I maxed out that and the Fierce Diety armor and boots in the meantime

no more taking 10 hearts of damage if I randomly get hit by a silver enemy

it's funny because I went up there randomly because a chunk of rock fell from the sky so I reverse time'd it up there and decided to paraglide into the lightning storm to see if it would let me. Surprisingly it did, but I almost turned back because of how foggy it was but decided to try to find my way around and just teleport out when I got stuck. I ended up stumbling into the shrine up there and then the mask that lead to the depths

Yeah, I ended up doing that entire thing really, REALLY early in the game. How could I resist trying to head toward the sky island surrounded by thunderclouds?

I genuinely thought I was just doing a sidequest until I neared the end and was like "Oh crap, this is a Temple?!"
