Kyle Rittenhouse is facing a lawsuit from the estate of a man Rittenhouse says he shot in self-defense during a Black Lives Matter riot in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in 2020.

The estate of Joseph Rosenbaum is suing Rittenhouse, Kenosha officials, local sheriffs departments, the City of Kenosha, the City of West Allis and several counties for "compensatory and punitive damages" for the "wrongful death" of Rosenbaum, according to a report in Texas Scorecard.

"These lawsuits are making it harder and harder for me to move on with my life," Rittenhouse told Texas Scorecard. "It is extremely difficult to go outside without fear of being harassed or assaulted because of the lies spread in these lawsuits. No one should have to continue to defend the fact that they acted in self-defense."

Rittenhouse shot Rosenbaum in 2020 during a BLM riot in Kenosha. Rittenhouse later testified in court that Rosenbaum threatened to kill him and tried to grab his gun. Rittenhouse was put on trial for the death of Rosenbaum and another man during the riot and was found not guilty in 2021.

Hours before the fatal encounter in Kenosha, Rosenbaum had been released from a local hospital after a suicide attempt, according to The Washington Post. Rosenbaum had pending charges in Wisconsin for alleged domestic abuse and jumping bail at the time of his death.

In December 2002, a court in Pima County, Arizona, sentenced Rosenbaum to a decade in prison on child molestation charges. He spent just over 14 years in prison and committed dozens of disciplinary infractions, state records show.

Rosenbaum had a young daughter at the time of his death.

The lawsuit filed in a federal district court in the Eastern District of Wisconsin claims Rosenbaum suffered a "wrongful death" and, as a consequence, his survivors "have suffered, and continue to suffer, significant emotional distress and harm, including but not limited to the loss of society and companionship with Rosenbaum."

Gaige Grosskreutz, a man shot in the arm by Rittenhouse during the Kenosha riots in 2020, also filed a lawsuit against Rittenhouse and Wisconsin police and officials earlier this year.

Yeah, an uncomfortable number of people on 261 (and I presume here) are actually on his side. Meanwhile those of us who are capable of understanding context know that it shouldn't matter if it was technically self-defense - his entire reason for being there was to stir up shit.

You don't break into someone's house and then "defend yourself" when they try to kick you out. You are still the bad guy no matter what happens from there.

... not even gonna address all the reasons this is a poor comparison, just going to say that Rittenhouse wasn't breaking in anywhere.

His lawyer recommended to him to keep his head down and just do nothing for as long as he could. Maybe he's finally seeing why the lawyer was right?

I saw he was recently on a Ted Nugent podcast and getting donations. hes never going to have to put up a cent of his own money for legal cases that hes going to keep winning anyway.

They need to just stop and let it be.

This is the key there. He deliberately put himself into a situation where self defense was required. The act may have been self defense, but he knew what he was doing.

I almost feel sorry for him. If I believe him, he's starting to feel the weight of taking a life.

However, this whole thing started because he went somewhere dangerous to stir shit up. He got what he wanted and he got away with it. In addition, he's utterly revelled in the positive attention he's got from the right. He's embarked on media tours and consistently tried to capitalise on the attention focused on him. He can't do that and then complain about the negative attention.

Better analogy would probably be the beginning of Die Hard 3. Yes, John was coerced into wearing the sandwich board, but it was still something that the blackmailer had him do knowing it would provoke others into violence against him.

Kyle's gun was essentially his sandwich board, but he had no blackmailer.

I advise you to pick your next words along this line carefully (for risk of moderation). There can be a very fine line between calling out a lack of common sense and "victim blaming." I'd probably cross swords myself with some people around here if I got involved in more discussions of that nature.

Kyle traveled to a place he had no connection to, with a gun he could not legally purchase at the time, in order to play out some fantasy of his.
