Its really good despite having graphics from 2007

Its a Bethesda game through and through. The more I play the more I am enjoying it. The biggest problem I have with it so far is the anemic opening, it just kind of throws you into everything with little lore building or world building.

everyone i know that has played it is loving it. Even my friends who arent big Beth's fans.

Based on what I've seen from checking out some Twitch streams the last couple days, it looks quite literally like "Bethesda In Space".

So if you like Bethesda's style of gameplay, are accepting of the flaws that comes with it, and are interested in seeing their take on a space-based sci-fi game. Here you go.

If you don't like Bethesda's games; didn't like Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3 or Fallout 4; then I'm not sure why you were ever paying any attention to this game anyway.

I'll weigh in again, more recent chatter I've seen suggests it's not great or even particularly good. Most everyone I know that got it isn't impressed. As in they're unhappy with it.

on one hand, im curious to play it since its an RPG in space.

on the other, Bethesda.

which leaves me conflicted here...

I never played Fallout, but it's that.

Been having a blast. 18 hours in. Little overwhelmed as far as the amount of missions, cities, places, planets etc but doing some faction missions now with a lot of fighting. Going to need to stock up on more ammo I can see. Going through it fast in gun fights which are pretty tough on normal. Really enjoying it.

Im having a really good time with the game but the animations and graphics are complete ass for a game in 2023

The game keeps crashing drivers for me but the one hour I got in wasn't very impressive. Got to the little space pirate raid thing and they just stood behind cover firing into the cover trying to hit...something? I unequipped my weapon and tried punching and I swear it's the same stiff animation that it was in Fallout IV. Definitely not leading with its best foot forward and I don't know if I have the patience sit through 12 hours for it to start getting good like the reviews say you do. Even once the driver issues get fixed.

It's a Bethesda/10. It's just like any other Bethesda game but in space.

Is this game like No Man's Sky? That's the impression I got from a small promotion video I saw. But I didn't really dig too deep into it.

It's a bethesda game. Might as well wait for the inevitable GOTY version (but didn't actually win any GOTY awards) with all the DLC for $20.

Do you have a desire to spend a shitload of time in a new Bethesda game? Then I think it'll be worth it.

I've only played a few hours and I'm already seeing these really interesting tangents and paths to go down along with far off goals to work toward. Might be because it's a new IP but it feels like the most complex game they've made since Morrowind with all the different systems and mechanics going on.

Nah. You don't explore in the space ship. It's more like Fallout 4 mixed with Mass Effect mixed with a space combat game. Going between different planets is more like Mass Effect although stuff can happen in the orbit of the planet in space which is where you fly about and fight/board other craft.

Yeah, was trying to think of a way to describe the differences between No Man's Sky and this, and that's about right. That is more about the seamless transition and space exploration while Starfield is more designed set pieces.

NV was supposedly better than FO3 but it felt pretty much the same;
going through roadside attractions with no real incentive to make a difference.

Like, what, you get revenge on Benny not even half-way into the game,
and all of a sudden you're supposed to give a crap about some dam? What gives?

NV still edges out in that it's still able to run on modern computers and only crashes 50% of the time.

I don't even understand this comparison, AC6 is a completely different type of game.

The consensus is that it is a slow burn ,and that the people who gave up on it too quickly , were mistaken about almost everything.
It leaves a sour first impression that goes away if you have patience and you will be greatly appreciative of hanging in there.
Unfortunately, a good quarter or more players will give up too soon because of the sour first impression made, which I understand and dont fault them for it.

However almost every single person that hung in there, or came back to give it another shot after catching some air, changed their opinion quite aggressively from mediocre or below average to holy crap what just happened this is crazy awesome!

Because of that , it's even more important not to listen to the haters and trolls... because most of them as I already said, gave up because of the slow burn closed start, and a lot of the best parts of the game take some time to get going. Also there are a lot of trolls for this game that actually never played. Which muddies the waters.. You can tell when someone has never played because they make claims that are just flat out wrong.

What exactly are you objecting to here? Serviceable?
I can tell by the art direction alone that it looks bland. Doesn't mean the gameplay is,
but I have some experience with modern Bethesda games.

Jumps into the action fairly quick, I guess I'm used to Fallout games taking a while to exit the vault.

The main story so far is boring generic sci-fi crap. The characters are boring. The lore is boring. We're miners on Mars and the company we work for treats us bad! Certainly haven't seen that one before, like, EVER, am I right?

So I decide to branch out, do some side missions. 10% of my time is spent in loading screens. A little girl wants me to hang up her drawings of a space frog on the walls. Cool. Three loading screens later I got 12 credits and have unlocked space frog drawings for my outposts, which I imagine I'm about 100 hours away from ever unlocking at this rate. This other guy wants me to mine iron for him so I mine iron then he wants me to fudge a job application so I go through a million loading screens to get to a space station to interact with a computer for three seconds so I can go back through a million loading screens so he can say "good job".

The only shooting I've seen outside of the initial tutorial area(s) is the shooting I've done of innocent people to max my stealth skill, that's it.

More than happy to show you my quest log, too.

Admittedly my fast travel technique was not the most efficient for a while so I could have saved maybe ten minutes total going from city to starship and back but the rest of it... Unless there's a way to fast travel from planet to planet without going through the launch animation, fast travel screen and then docking/landing animation. Even then, it's just a boring experience.
