A lot of people have gotten their accounts permanently suspended, even if they have nothing illegal on them like pedo/loli/shota stuff. But DA's updated terms of service (essentially banning anything violent, cannibalistic, or anything else deemed "nonconsensual") as well as what is assumed to be a combo of an AI-bot for detection and a mod/reviewer with a major stick up their ass has resulted in many artists and creators losing their profiles, and possibly also a change in management by DA's parent company Wix or the possibility that they're trying to sell the site or appeal to advertisers (the latter of which is happening all over the web).

Even people who have had their accounts for years, even over a decade, and have had no issues at all until now, are seeing all their hard work being flushed down the toilet, and in the worst of cases, they're being immediately banned without any warning or chance to appeal, and those who do manage to get in contact with someone finds them completely unhelpful because they don't specify which of the art needs to be taken down; just that the artist needs to remove the "offending" art.

What's especially irksome is that they're doing this, while not doing much at all to deal with scammers, trolls, harassment, art thieves, and also essentially brushed off people's concerns about AI art and even initially had their own AI generator use art previously submitted to the site by artists to train it without their consent.

There are too many accounts just cranking out low grade AI trash though. The site used to be about people showcasing their talent and hardwork. Typing a few key phrasing in to an AI requires neither of those.

Yeah, many artists were upset about DA's devil may care attitude towards AI art and even tried to use artists own work to train their own awful AI generator before they sorta walked back on it after the outcry). The site in general has gone downhill ever since it was bought by Wix.

Reddit recently did a pearl clutching change too. Whats up with sites trying to be all puritanical all the sudden?

Amazing that DA thinks it can survive with nothing but AI art and peoples' badly drawn Sonic OCs.

Ad revenue is drying up, because of the adblock death-spiral. If you want any money at all, you need "partners" who pay for "promoted" fake-content.
Those partners don't want to end up placing "NYC to Miami, $535 round trip!" right next to Bench Tails.

What's ironic here is that this started up well after DA's peak in popularity, as the site was on a downturn especially after the unpopular Eclipse makeover that they forced on everyone (which also broke and/or removed previous features).

I decided to read it and I think the short version is that if you draw an aged up character, you have to visibly make them look older in terms of their body type (ie. you can't just draw the younger version, slap an "18+" on them and call it a day), and the ruling mostly (if not only) applies to anything even remotely sexual

As for deviantart it's been on a downward trend obviously. furry sites and Newgrounds made the right move banning AI art. holy shit dA needs an AI crackdown (so does pixiv).

I remember the Furaffinity thing was pretty amusing, because it meant that a lot of the site owner's own artworks was breaking the new rules.

They of course hid said works and anyone pointing it out, like a coward.

That is the death-spiral.
Annoying/scammy ads cause people to install an adblocker, which means more and more-annoying ads for everyone else as sites get desperate to recover lost revenue, which leads to more adblocker installs, which leads to more ads, and so on and so on and so on.

The end result is that sites start selling ad partnerships directly. Once the plausible-deniability of ad-network middlemen is gone, the advertisers quickly start mandating content standards. This assumes, of course, that some-odd site even has the clout and/or manpower to court advertising partners.

The only real alternative is paywalls, but who the hell is going to pay a monthly subscription to read some textfile FAQ someone wrote about a 40-year-old NES game, or to shitpost on the forums?

DA actually pushes AI. It has its own (awful) AI generator that only allows five uses before you have to pay for it, and it uses existing art on the platform to train it (and for a while, all art was opted in to this by default, but the outcry from users caused DA to change it so that their art is opted out by default).

If somebody drew a 20-something Ash, it doesn't mean that they have sexual thoughts about a 14-year-old Ash (or whatever his canon age is supposed to be). It's also weird to think that certain Pokmon types are banned. Is there a Childmon that looks like a child even in its adult form? Or is Furaffinity saying that certain Pokmon types are too beastly even for them?

Well if there's a small comfort, pixiv requires (I think) people to tag AI art, and you can filter it out in the options.

All I'll say is that I'm getting sick and tired of literally everyone lately getting more and more restrictive on what they allow rather than more liberal or keeping the status quo.

I mean the ones that are canonically "baby Pokmon" I understand, but beyond that I find it rather obnoxious and arbitrary. Like Charmeleon generally seems like a rebellious teenager to me, so are they allowed or not? And a Pokmon's evolutionary status generally has nothing to do with its age anyway, so it just seems absurd that all it has to do is evolve and all of a sudden it's okay, that just feels like a form of the whole "aging up a character" loophole that they explicitly disallow.

A naughty creator I've been following for at least half a decade, possibly closer to a full, who has had no issue on DA (but was banned from Patreon a while back) recently got axed, with no warning they claim.

I can find their stuff elsewhere if I want, but it's annoying.
