Someone's gonna have to actually fucking give him punishments with teeth or this shit is going to eventually unravel the entire legal system by playing such blatantly different rules for him than any other American, even if this fucker is a former president.

This.

No lesson to be learned since he can easily afford the penalties.

Not that I expect it to ever happen, the fine would need to be proportional to his networth or send his ass to jail. But our justice system is too scared to do it.

The judge absolutely has the power to punish him, even though he has money. It's like they're willingly choosing to do jack shit.

Maybe a stupid question, but...
Does the IRS actually go in and TAKE the money, or is it up to Trump to pay it on his own initiative?
Cause if the latter.... you know Trump's history. He's literally never even paying these minuscule fines.

I might be mistaken, but I've been following the case rather closely. I'm not aware of any decision by the appeals court that went in Trump's favor. Maybe he's referring to the appeals court dropping Ivanka Trump from the suit, but the AG subpoenaing Ivanka to testify? Not sure. Trump either doesn't have a good grasp of what is going on in the trial (his comments about Michael Cohen and trying to get the case dismissed) or he's just lying.

That's about what I figured. the only news I found regarding an appeal was back on October 6 that temporarily delayed the dissolution of his businesses.

Unless NY is reeeeeeeeeeeeally far out there, any dispute over subpoenas should not be an appealable issue at this time, if at all. Her knowledge is clearly relevant given her involvement in the Trump businesses.

As for your choice of possibilities regarding Trump's understanding/truthfulness, the answer is always "Yes."

Then he does it again and gets hit with a $20,000 fine.

Then he does it again, $25,000

And again, $30,000

Etc.

I think a big part of it is that some feel he wants to go to jail for publicity. He knows he won't be put in with others, he'll be safe and by himself with Secret Service watching over him. Him being jailed for contempt would just feed into his narrative of being a martyr for speaking the 'truth". We also know there is a sizeable portion of his Chud army that are eager and prone to violence, so it won't take much to set a few of the looney ones off.

It sucks that this shitbag gets this treatment, but unfortunately he is a special case.

That isn't what he's saying.

He's saying the likelihood they will throw Trump in actual jail is incredibly low.

He's a former president, who happens to be also running for reelection, who happens to have a legion of 40% of the country willing to lick his ass clean with their tongues, who also tend to have domestic threat tendencies, who also tends to have political sycophants willing to protect him.

Ofc hes not immune, but throwing him in jail is harder than throwing someone like you or me in jail. Hence why thus judge keeps only fining him.

Which is ironic Trump keeps boohoo crying about a 2 tier justice system. Normal people's ass would have been in jail ages ago.

That said, Trump and his flunkies seems to be on a mission to test how far they can push their privilege most people don't get.

I don't think anyone has any clue about how the sentencing phase will go, should Trump be found guilty of any of his 91 felony charges. I'm sure the fact that Trump legally has secret service protection for the rest of his life will have to factor in. They can't just require that secret service sit in a prison cell with him, I don't think.

However... Would the courts sentence him as if he's a regular person and leave that up to the Bureau of Prisons to figure out? Who knows.

I can't wait until we get a couple of these court cases in the books so that we can get to the sentencing phase.

There are minimum security prisons that exist on military bases. If Trump is sentenced to prison, I think that's the only avenue.

And they'd still have to figure out what to do with his secret service protection.

They should rip the band aid off. If the reason Trump isn't getting the punishment he deserves is "But his cult might become violent", then we've already lost.

They're already violent. Multiple domestic terrorists and white supremacists already stand by him and has expressed a desire to kill people if they don't get their way.

Let justice be served. If someone wants to become a domestic terrorist over it, let justice be delivered. Otherwise you're putting more people in danger because imagine if Trump slips through all of this.

Imagine if he wins 2024.
Imagine if he loses.

His cult will be killing people regardless.

That sounds way too much like some kind of plan. It's much more believable that he's just incensed people are daring to question him and he's lashing out, heedless of the consequences; any more consequences he gets by being heedless of the previous ones are just more things to be mad at the world unjustly inflicting on him. It's narcissism.
