Middle school was a rough time due to the way they organized the school district. Tons of kids getting introduced to each other as like 4 different elementary schools merge into a single middle school. However by the time we all hit high school my class really fucking mellowed out and I quite enjoyed my time in high school.
Interesting how that all works out differently for certain people. I have very fond memories of middle school despite it only being two years. I think what must have helped is that for the core subjects, I had both the same teachers and same classmates in every single class for both years. I guess I was also fortunate that my best friend from elementary school happened to be in every one of those classes too. And my cousin. But we all were able to make friends with our new classmates pretty easily I remember.

High school was mostly okay, but in the final two years my own emotional issues really started to mess things up for me and it resulted in two things:

  1. It caused me to lapse significantly in my schoolwork
  2. I hurt someone I cared about through emotional abuse
Both of those things I still think about often and still have massive regrets over. So I don't know if I'd call that PTSD, but toward the end, high school was definitely a bad time because of it.

This combined with the notion of no such thing as an afterlife is the key tenets to nihilism.

The way I see it, it's the exact opposite.

If the afterlife is what matters, and this life is just dirty rags, the short time you spend here becomes meaningless outside of attempting to get your God to pass a positive judgement on you.

If you believe this is all we have, you are more likely to make the most of the little time you have. If you believe this is just a cosmic "test" before the real existence, you don't have to worry about regret - and if you are a Christian, it's not even your responsibility to seek forgiveness for your transgressions against others, that's for God to do.

It was bad for me when I moved. In 8th grade, my first day was when it was picture day, so all the kids were dressed nice and Im just there in jeans and a shirt. Made no friends, they made fun of my hair, etc. I didnt know it at the time, but I was heavily depressed after moving. My anxiety got so bad that I tried hiding in the bathroom stall and brought my GBA to keep me busy. That didnt work.

A year later, Im a freshman and it only got worse. My brother was embarrassed of me and wanted nothing to do with me. It was awkward cuz he said if anybody asks, were cousinsso when a teacher would ask oh, are you brothers with so and so, Id say no hes my cousin. Just so bad. Embarrassing. Awkward. I skipped classes often, dropped out of a couple periods, I was not having a good time and was so disinterested in school. I dropped out in 11th grade, got a job and never looked back.

Nah, sorry. I actually had a fairly good high school experience. Wasn't the most popular, but was liked by most. Dumb enough to get along with the coasters and smart/nerdy enough to get along with the AP kids.

Sure, it's possible, but can we not misuse "PTSD" here to simply refer to you had a bad time

I still have dreams about a person or two from high school & certain memories about wanting to be back in it apparently, there's a part of my subconscious that hasn't moved on & still longs for it. But that's mostly because you have a lot less of shit to worry about as opposed to being older.

I still keep in touch with a few people from then, but there's always that gnawing dream or two that wants it back

Do you object to us using "PTSD" when it literally is PTSD developed from experiences in school?

I got promoted to quarterback as a freshman. My school was terrible in Football. The fact that when the senior quarterback went down with an injury that they had to promote one of the whopping four shitty freshmen quarterbacks is saying a lot.

We didnt win a single game, but I was treated fairly well on campus. Or at least until wrestling season started. We were stupid good at wrestling, and the older kids were jealous assholes who hazed the fuck out of me.

I oddly enough went down with a legit injury my sophomore year that kept me out of Football Season. But I milked it so I had an excuse not to wrestle because wrestling season was just so hard, absolutely hell, and the older guys were like gods for paying their dues while you were rightfully treated like a peasant.

I was physically beat up. Constantly harassed. Dry humped. Humiliated. Forced to basically be the older guys slave.

Unfortunately for me, coach still made me attend and sit on the sidelines of every practice. Had I missed one Id have been off the team. They also knew I was milking the injury. So I was relentlessly bullied, and beat up but out of love. Tough love. Technically these guys would have my back during the school day if I ever needed it, I just never did.

Something changed in my head at that time. I felt shame, and I couldnt look myself in the mirror anymore knowing I was a pussy. I became an entirely different person.

I worked very hard in the off season to make up the wrestling season I lost out on. It included waking up at the crack of dawn to take public busses with sometime rides totaling 6+ hours to off season wrestling practices & tournaments.

My junior year, we had a transfer that was actually a good quarterback so I quit Football, and just concentrated on wrestling.

Ultimately I placed in state twice, and went on to become a two time all-American in college. Then did mma for a few years, and that opened up doors yo get into a career in tech. To this day Im the only person from my high school to all-American in any sport. My picture hangs in their trophy case, as a part of their athletics hall of fame.

My 20 year is coming up this summer. Cant wait. But yea, my transition came from getting relentlessly bullied, and choosing yo confront it, rather than run away from it.

Even if its been decades, if you still have PTSD then I recommend confronting that trauma anyway you can. Ignoring it and giving into fatalism is not the way my homies.

On the other hand, if were capable of reflecting on life during an afterlife, that might make the limited time here even more important.

No. I was the one doing the traumatizing. Not even the teachers were safe from my relentless bullying. My only rival was the teacher who didn't give a fuck and would headbutt students.

No, I was deeply unhappy in high school, but it was the last time I actually had friends, so there's some good memories in there.

Schooling does need some real reforming, though. Too many people have real shitty experiences and is a miserable experience that turns people off from learning. I love learning, but not in a traditional primary school setting.

Not in mine. The ones in my grade happened to be children of the school employees. It was also a school that put sports above all else. So having these kids not only be excused due to relationships of their parents, but also due to being good athletes, they got away with whatever they wanted. There were basically no consequences for that group.

Admittedly, that was only like 3 kids that fell into that group, but their friends also enjoyed much lesser consequences due to association.

It was the "nobody" bullies that paid for their actions. Like the transfer student that had no association with the main group, and tried selling drugs. He got put down hard and eventually kicked out, where he eventually died of an overdose. That was "expected" and brushed off like nothing. But the drug dealing quarterback who died of an overdose the next year was seen as a tragedy and everyone mourned him for months. Like, why did the other guy's death not matter?

Likewise, one of the most hateful, arrogant, and entitled people in my class. Popular for sports, got arrested for going 80 in a school zone and whipping past a bus that was unloading children. What came of that? All the school employees tried pulling strings to get him out of it. I do think he lost his license temporarily, but I don't recall anything further than that. No one even held it against him because "he suffered enough." No, he nearly killed some kids. At least slap his wrist to show some kind of objection to his actions. >_>

High school was a pretty chill experience overall. Middle school was absolutely god awful though. I just tried my best to stay on the down low and ignore all the nonsense that went down during middle school.

I hated group work. Because the football jocks made me do all the heavy lifting. They talk big about being in the NFL in their future, but they would never make it to college.

I never had that in my grade school class, but there was a set of twin sons of a teacher.

They were bad kids. Causing hell, but getting no sort of appropriate punishment. Never had to deal with em thank god.
