Tonight is the last of the 5 play-in tournaments before the Tournament of Champions caps off the season next week.

Among the field tonight are one of the best rookie bots of WC7 in Ripperoni, one of the most improved bots of WC7 in Claw Viper, one of the best rookie bots of WC6 trying to rebound from a disappointing second year in Glitch, and a few long-time veteran teams like Hypershock and Monsoon. Which bot will claim the final spot in the Tournament of Champions and keep their quest for the Golden Bolt alive?

Ripperoni time!

Claw Viper is so damn fast. Probably could do laps around Hypershock.

Glitch has so much potential. It just needs to work. I hope they fixed the movement and clearance issues. Starchild is a much worse Huge that can't control its own movement.

IT'S ROBOT FIGHTIN' TIME! We're starting off with Claw Viper vs. Shatter, and Claw Viper dominated that fight. It didn't do much damage, but it easily won in terms of control and aggression, plus it disabled Shatter's axe at some point in the fight too.

Gruff really needs to go back to the drawing board. It still doesn't do much damage, and now it's not even as good of a tank as it used to be. Ripperoni vs. Glitch up next, and now I want some pizza...

How is Ripperoni technologically advanced?

Chomp had the same gimmick and it didn't work.

a spinner provides much more consistent inverse energy than a hammer does

especially a spinner that big. I don't remember chomp having a flywheel though.

Hypershock vs. Claw Viper is going to be a very fun speed battle in the second round. Oh, and there's my pizza I ordered.

Hypershock slowed down and shut down Claw Viper, Ripperoni blew away Monsoon, the finals are set, and I just got done eating my pizza. It was tasty.

Best episode of Champions so far. Looking forward to next week.

The last fight was a bit underwhelming (both their drives got fucked up simultaneously, shit happens sometimes) but aside from that, I agree it was a pretty good episode overall. Can't wait for the Tournament of Champions next week.

How is Ripperoni technologically advanced?

I don't think they are comparable at all. Chomp was basically like a Paris fashion show. More as a showcase of technology rather than a competitive design.

Ripperoni, on the other hand, is innovative in that they are trying a novel new way to counteract a known weakness of verts, the gyroing. Other teams basically solve this by gitting gud at driving, but I think they are the only team trying to solve it via engineering.

First year gremlins. There were 2 or so fights in WCVII where it worked exactly as promised. They just got to dial it in.

In terms of tech, I like the FPV drones starting to trickle in. I wonder if anyone will try to do a drone swarm bot.

Rip doesn't gyro anywhere near as hard as Uppercut, its predecessor, or when the flywheel isn't working.

It does still gyro but considering its weapon, not too much.
