I really feel like Father Gascoignes theme is masteclass vgm. Its so relentlessly angry and oppressive, and it fits his lore perfectly. Its also a perfect introduction for the player like welcome to bloodborne - this is what it means to be a hunter

im gonna restart the game after i finish it just so i can actually hear it this time lol

Definitely one of the best tracks.

If you beat rom then you're definitely ready for the start of the dlc. Treat it as another place you can go when you hit a wall. Especially if you're doing chalice dungeons then there shouldn't be any need to grind for anything, unless you're losing tens of thousands of echoes on the regular.

Yeah I remember on my first playthrough I would switch back and forth between advancing in the main story, and advancing in the chalice dungeons. At one point I was taking a break from story progress by doing chalice progress, and vice versa, so it was like I was taking a break from Bloodborne by playing more Bloodborne.

Probably the #1 thing I would change about the game would be to make Chalice progress global across all characters, not just across NG cycles. At this point I have done the mandatory chalice dungeons SO MANY times, I really don't enjoy that part of the game anymore at all. I do like the endgame chalice stuff, but it takes so long to get a character to that point, and it'd be so much better if the game would let me just immediately go into the depth 5 randomized dungeons without needing to do the entire sequence on every single fresh file.

pizza cutter is near the top, but I could probably gush about almost every weapon in the game at this point. there's a few that feel a bit clunky compared to the top tier weapons but most everything is fun in some way... and most weapons shine in at least one particular situation.

among my favorites are

hunter axe - the spin to win works perfectly in the context of this specific game and you can see that it was designed with the rally system in mind. you can take several attacks while diving into a horde of enemies, and recover all of the health as you slash through them. it also has an absurd amount of stagger and knockdown that can send almost any enemy in the game flying, including many enemies that can't be moved by any other attack. the only negative thing I have to say about this weapon is that it makes me never want to use the Kirkhammer, because this handles so much better for the exact same build.

reiterpallasch - I just think a gunblade is cool, and this thing is the ultimate hunter killer. including bosses like lady maria. it's so easy to set up parry with it, and since it's a dex weapon, your visceral attacks likely do high damage.

rifle spear - very underrated weapon that is good without really needing to shoot. the key feature is the ability to swap between a one handed and two handed moveset, with a variety of attacks that have good range and tracking. it just handles in a very satisfying way, while outputting solid damage and stagger. although the fact that it's another gun blade is cool, too. the stagger from the pellets is useful, especially with the wide firing radius, but you won't really get a lot of damage out of this gun.

saw spear - despite being one of the most basic weapons in the game it's also one of the most effective, and I'll never get over how cool the L1 attack chains are.

rifle spear has a lot in common with the pizza cutter now that I think about it. both of them have that 1H->2H mindset, seeming to have the perfect speed, damage output, and feel in either mode. both of them don't particularly rely on the L2 for standard combat, so they feel like they are 'down' a move in their moveset compared to other weapons, but make up for it in their insane reliability with L1, R1, and R2 attacks. to be honest, most weapons in the game have at least one button you'll rarely press with that weapon. so if that button happens to be L2 it's not a huge deal.

Yessssss it's so much fun and you're welcome!

My first playthrough I used mostly the Tonitrus after I got it. Hilariously, I didn't even know for like half the game that its transformation temporarily powered it up. Just never tried to transform it for some dumb reason! NG+ I alternated between Ludwig's Holy Blade and the Whirlygig Saw. Used mostly the pizza cutter for bosses because its stagger damage is amazing. But once I started leveling up my dex too, the holy blade became ridiculously powerful because it scales well with both that and strength. And non-transformed, it attacks so much faster than the pizza cutter. Which I used really depended on the boss.

Good luck on the final boss of the DLC, my friend. I suppose you'll have to beat him before the regular final boss, though honestly I can't remember if the DLC works like the chalice dungeons and saves your progress going to NG+. Even if it does though, not sure you wanna take on DLC final boss on NG+. Pizza cutter makes that boss a lot easier though.

And what are your blood gems looking like?

Yesh i was using the tonitrus before i found the pizza cutter. Its like on one hand i miss builds, but on the other hand experimenting with every weapon is s blast. Almost feels like monster hunter in that way

ill let you know about my blood gems later when im playing

Right now i can take on paarl, the nightmare college place, the dlc, or the fire dog thing in the chalice.

I actually dont fully understand how the chalice dungeons work lol. I have a ton of chalice items but im scared to waste them or do something wrong because i know these are related to the platinum tropht. so i just have one dungeon open right now

  • Ignore the Root chalices, unless you look one up for gem farming or whatever. They are the truly random ones but they're not tied to progression.
  • Without glitches, you have to do all the non-root chalices anyway except the Hintertombs. You either need the next chalice or materials from the chalice.
  • If you do them early and get hard stuck, you may need stuff from the main game. The last material you get is from a hidden area near the very end.
  • One material, Arcane Haze, rarely drops from anywhere. You have to find the "Arcane Haze Extractor" in one of the chalices and use it at the upgrade bench to convert materials you don't need. You should have plenty of low level stuff you don't need by that point.
  • You shouldn't ever need to recreate a normal chalice as long as you don't miss anything, but if you do, then use a glyph (input code) to do it. It won't take additional materials.

Agreed. Every single weapon in bloodborne is special. If i had to pick a least favorite it would be the saw spear, but even that one I've still had fun with at one point or another.

Oh, and I forget what unlocks when, but you can buy chalice materials from the Insight Shop. Usually it's after you need it, but in particular I think there's something (forget what) you buy from there in order to ignore Hintertombs chalices. That was actually patched in later.

Things to note:

Make sure you fully explore every layer of every chalice so you aren't missing materials for the next one. If you are missing something, check with Google as to where you can find/farm it.
PS+ is required for glyph searches.

  1. Pthumeru Chalice
  2. Central Pthumeru
  3. Lower Pthumeru - Make sure you get the Workshop Haze Extractor from Layer 2. There are 4 layers in this chalice.
  4. Ailing Loran
  5. Defiled Chalice
  6. Lower Loran and Great Isz - Order doesn't matter.
  7. Pthumeru Ihyll
Once the above is done, make any root chalice with all three rites (Fetid, Rotted, Cursed - referred to as FRC). Making an FRC Isz root is one of the faster/cheaper ones. You do not need to complete whatever FRC root you make.

You now have access to all important glyphs. Use the "Search by Chalice Glyph" function to create the dungeon you need. This will not consume materials.

The Bloodborne Sheets - Has glyphs for gems and other goodies.

I saved this from an old reddit thread a while ago and I still look back at it every so often when I need a reminder. Although I used to have a .png version that also told you which floors you can 'skip' in the mandatory dungeons. I wish I could find that. I also have The Bloodborne Sheets bookmarked, so I can provide that:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1syKnSKflHbFiGY4pXkfIeXoMa2Lp9X1aXyme2qaTen4/htmlview#

However, there have been times where some of the glyphs on here have been outdated and the codes no longer work, so sometimes it takes a few tries to find what you're looking for. Either way, that's a long ways off. It's not worth using root dungeons or chalice glyphs until AFTER you have access to FRC Depth 5 Dungeons. Anything before that is a waste of your time.

With regards to Blood Gem set ups, I won't overwhelm you with too much information, but anything that gives +% Physical Damage or +% Damage is usually going to be optimal, at least for the time being. You'll pick up a number of gems just playing through the mandatory chalice dungeons, and start to get actually good ones around Depth 2 or 3. Enough to boost your attack power. Some enemies in the DLC also drop Blood Gems in a decent +% Physical Damage range, so it can be worth it to play the DLC a bit until you get a few extra gems. Especially if you're using multiple weapons.

There is a sheet that describes the optimal gem slot set up, and the gems to put into each slot, for each weapon. I'll share that as well later on if you need it, but that's not something you will need until/unless you get absolutely DEEP into the game. This is a mechanic very few people ever fully engage with.

Nevermind, I'm dumb. I found the PNG that shows the mandatory dungeons to clear, in what order, as well as which floors you can skip over. It was saved as an album, that's why I didn't find it right away. Well, I highly recommend using this to make the experience go a little more smoothly.

Did not expect to find the blue aliens

Are they even aliens or whats the lore with these things lol. I just imagine them as lesser aliens who hitched a ride to this planet with the great ones

Also some lady on a table bent over, with a player message behind her that says time for thrusting lmao

so i thrusted, and to my surprise got an umbilical cord. I dont know who that lady was but thanks for the cord

Made it to cainhurst, and got a trophy for getting there, so obviously i never made it here in my last playthrough, so fuck yeah something completely new to me. But then my wife kicked me off the ps5 so she could play baldurs gate 3 but i shall return tomorrow

Been a while since I read up on BB lore, but from what I can recall, Rom was like a filter preventing the true horrors from affecting moral perception.

Here's some in-game text examples:

"The Byrgenwerth spider hides all manner of rituals and keeps our lost master from us. A terrible shame. It makes my head shudder uncontrollably." - Note from library area just beyond the Tomb of Oedon.

"The spider hides all manner of rituals, certain to reveal nothing, for true enlightenment need not be shared." - Note from the second floor of Byrgenwerth.

You can still meet Eileen even if you fail to complete her quest. If you go to the Grand Chapel, where you fought Vicar Amelia, she will be waiting there to fight you. If you complete her quest line, this is where you would normally fight the Bloody Crow of Cainhurst.

Bloody Crow, despite not even being a boss, is considered by lots of people to be one of the hardest bosses in Bloodborne. Fighting Eileen there is a little bit easier.
