Men aren't readily allowed to break free of stereotypes.

If a man likes romantic movies, ballet, or anything even remotely "girly" he is made fun of.

When a woman likes football, MMA, or anything remotely "masculine" she is generally seen as cool.

Both men and women face dumb restrictions that are thankfully breaking down.
I think it's worthwhile to point out that the pressures put on men originate from other men.

The patriarchy hurts us all. Dare I say, it hurts us equally, just in different ways.

It's true for the most part that female oriented media tends to be disrespected or belittled by men regardless of the "validity" of the criticism one could level at said media.

i mean you have dudes in their 30s here who still use shit like "virgin" as an insult and haven't mentally aged past their middle school days. if it's not because you're a virgin, it's your job, whether you still live with your family, whether or not you're currently single, whether or not you watch anime or something, it's always something. women definitely aren't as actively combative, looking for something- anything- to use as ammunition

Are you really trying to say that grown women are universally enlightened? As there is no such thing as an immature 30 yo woman?

First you said pressure on men originates from men, then when I pointed out that it also comes from women, you provided some generic examples of male immaturity as if that refuted my point.

Women do this too. Especially the judging your hobby part.

Id say most of the insecurities dudes have come from how women react to them. Not other dudes.

They didn't say women weren't contributive at all, but it's true that the main structure for it comes from men. That's the whole point of patriarchal societies where men are the leaders in most areas. The biggest masculine stereotype traits that people believe women value are also things men value in other men, usually more, whereas the feminine traits that women value are scoffed at or cared about far less.

Was scrolling through reels on Instagram and this observation holds even more true there. I get a good amount of fitness content and I a woman had posted her 10k run and the comments had a shockingly high amount of comments from dudes being a bunch of asshats getting mad over nothing. Quite often I'll see comments from salty men saying things like "just run, you don't need to post this", "nobody cares, work out for yourself", or generally trying to dismiss the feats. Majority of the fitness content I get is from male users, and when I check the comments for them it's all quite the opposite. Mostly praise and circle jerks. Occasionally you'll have some haters, but it's not like the inverse is happening. You don't have droves of women running to the comments so they can put a dude down.

Women like different things, and its fair to say they usually have problems. Like if a couple reads books, the woman would probably like Sarah J Mass, but a man who likes reading fantasy probably wouldnt because its got a very different focus, as its been dubbed Romantasy, by readers, which is apparently pretty accurate.

Nah, its Romance + Fantasy. Not to say fantasy lacks it, but it changes from fantasy with a side of romance to romance with a side of fantasy. Fourth Wing is making similar rounds.

If you follow book reviews you can find couples reviewing them, and the men arent just shitting on them, but they can criticize at length and will rate them 2 stars or whatever, and their wives dont seem to notice any of the flaws, and dont care about them when theyre pointed out, because the romance is what theyre there for, and the men care more about everything else.

Pressure is put on by other women too.

This attitude some have that everything or most things negative is pressured by men...., and women are just generally little angels who dont push toxic things too and have no gender benefits in society too, is just not true.

Both men and women put toxic pressure on both men and women. It's not a, "mostly men" thing.

I think a major part of the problem of this conversation as a whole is that this discussion is way more nuanced than some care to recognize. Both genders aren't exactly a monolith; some seem to want it both ways (those who argue contradicting positions); class race and status play role; some still seem to think this is 1924 when speaking about 2024 (shaping some of their opinions being perceived as fact) and the problems of today with some even wanting it both ways; those who point at a specific issue then act like pointing out another issue is somehow attempting to invalid another's existence; dont get me started on discussions automatically being dismissed due to the hyper polarization of politics lately since even the slightest disagreement is seen as being "pro the other side" which automatically disqualified any and all points someone made no matter how valid; and so much more.

Both genders have there nuanced struggles and both genders are pushing toxicity, and complete dismissal specific problems even exist. The pissing context, complete dismissal, and blaming of one specific gender isn't helping to remedy specific problems both genders specifically face. To be clear, this isn't at you, I'm speaking generally, as both genders are pretty toxic in their own right.

Yeah, he didn't word that as well as he could've. It's not a black and white thing of course, as you say, it's a very nuanced thing with neither being monoliths. Women obviously contribute to it as well. There is still truth in the fact that the demographics that are in charge of most things and that have the most visible voice means that their ideals are the ones that are most visible and pushed onto society. And this applies to not just gender roles but anything too, like class, race, and status as you mentioned.
