There always are. Most people agree that DST should go away in some capacity, but the subsequent arguments about which time to stick with permanently inevitably end up in a dead heat and the whole idea gets scrapped as a result. Lather, rinse, repeat every couple years to see if the relative proportions of morning people and night owls have changed (they haven't).

To be honest, the only reason I ever notice DST is usually when I go grocery shopping on Sundays and I wonder why the clock in my car is off by an hour. Then after a few minutes my brain kicks in and goes "oh yea..." and changes it to what it should be. If it weren't for that, I would never know that it was happening.

I find it depends on what time I'm getting up. Some years, it's a minor change and I barely notice. Others, if I'm routinely getting up at a time that means I've been seeing the morning get lighter and lighter for the last couple weeks (especially during whatever commute I'm doing), that abrupt shift to being dark again absolutely wrecks me and it's like a month before I can get out of bed properly.

These days, working from home most of the time and getting up to start work at 9, it's not a huge problem because it's already been reasonably light at 9 for a couple months and will continue to be after the change.

Part of it is entertainment companies want more darkness time. There's also folks who don't want their kids waiting for the school bus in the dark. That's why it got expanded in 2006.

I quite like daylight savings time. I just dont understand why, in the winter, when the days are shorter anyway, they decided thats a good time to push the clock back so it gets darker at an even earlier time.

Be nice if they sprung ahead once more and then just fucking left it. I cant think of a genuinely good reason for switching times twice a year. But the people in charge probably like that it keeps people unhappy, because heaven forbid we have nice things.

because while we COULD change the rotational speed of the planet, we apparently can't change the 9 to 5 grind to be 10 to 6

The senate passed it but the house never voted on it.

I enjoy the hour switches since it's a (IMO) refreshing shakeup in things twice a year. And the hour change doesn't mess with my sleep schedule.

Though, if the other house does decide to finally vote on a permanent time, I'd prefer perma-DST (which they're planning to do) over perma-standard time.

Didn't that just make it worse? It had just gotten to where there was enough light I no longer needed a flashlight when I start my walk at 6 am and the sun had just risen by the time I finished, and now the sun doesn't come up until 7:45.

Talks? No, not really. A couple of senators snuck the removal into another bill and no one noticed, so it passed the senate without debate. The House never bothered to debate it or bring it up for a vote, so it died there.
