Before anyone tries to Eastersplain to me how the date is determined, stop typing. I know.

That said March is too early for Easter. Not only is spring barely getting started if at all in late March but it's too close to St.Patrick's Day. There's hardly time to switch moods and prepare for Easter when it's two weeks after St. Patrick's Day at most.

Not to mention biblical scholars are fairly confident in that Jesus of Nazareth died in either 30 or 33 both years that would have had the crucifixion take place on either April 3, or April 7 respectively. Ergo according to Christians the resurrection would have happened on either the 5th or the 9th.

If we fixed the date of Easter to be closer to those dates it would make it easier for schools, colleges and the workplace to get time off if they had a reliable date to break over.

Our spring holiday has been held hostage by that lifeless tide locked rock long enough. Give Easter the Thanksgiving treatment and the holiday will reach its full potential. In my lifetime I've had two Easter Fool's Days and next year will make two Easter weed days. Let's not do that anymore.

End rant

Botched the dates here if Jesus was crucified in 30 the date would have been April 7 but if it happened in 33 it would have been April 3. My bad

But the important part was that Jesus likely died in April not March.

I'm not religious but my family still has Easter dinners that my brother and his family come up for so I get to see my nephew and as he gets older I will see the joy the day brings him. This year they are waiting for the eclipse to visit family.

As an aside about St. Patrick's Day it should be bigger than it is. We should be playing traditional Irish games and celebrating Irish culture more than we do. I don't want to take the going out to bars and drinking aspect of it but rather I want to add more so that kids can do more than wear green and try to prank each other will chocolate gold coins.

Christmas is tied to this pagan Greco-Roman belief that all great men die nine months before their birthday. Since it was well known that Jesus died during Passover, the Church fathers reasoned that he had to have been born in December or January. The Orthodox Church went with January 7th while the Roman Church went with December 25th.

Why Easter follows the lunar calendar, I cannot say. I have a theory that Gentile Christians did it to spite the Jewish Christians who still celebrated Passover.

I think the days after both Thanksgiving and Christmas should be federal holidays. Except for essential workers and maybe volunteers in the out of home entertainment places like movie theaters for example, nobody should have to worry about working the day after either one.
