2-3 probably would have gone below 2-1 if it weren't for some high votes. It's praised for being one of the few Phoenix/Maya cases in the whole series and Acro being a memorable and effective character. Some liked the cast, others didn't, and most did not like the fawning on Regina.

Summary:

Global Studios is in trouble again when another one of their action stars ends up dead, and the newest Steel Samurai is the suspect. But this time it's not just the life of defendant Matt Engarde in Phoenix's hands, but Maya's as well!

My rating: 10/10. I was spoiled basically on the big twist of 2-4 and I still rate it very high. The execution is just handled so well. Day 2, both investigation and trial, might be the best day of the entire series. There's so many good moments from the dual Psyche-Locks of Engarde and Adrian, Phoenix and Edgeworth discussing what it means to be a lawyer, Powers's testimony, de Killer's testimony, and the combined efforts to win the case.

Single handedly makes its game worth playing (and imo in contention for best PW game) and probably the main reason I considered not giving 1-3 a 9.

Just perfect. It feels so high stakes with Maya's involement, the twists all hit, it doesn't overstay its welcome, and the annoying staple characters that plague other cases don't do more than they should.

Fuck it, it's carrying this game. I can ignore some qualms.

my one issue with the case is that trial 2 does get a bit tiresome. the powers and de killer testimonies are great, but the teddy bear/non-suicide note stuff is a drag in hindsight.

Still my favorite case. Probably the best investigations in the series. This is peak Edgeworth. It's a bummer you don't get to take Engarde down directly, but it doesn't bother me enough to matter.

I was baffled at first when it seemed like they were doing a finale mystery that had nothing to do with any main characters. And technically that's exactly what it is! But really that was a great decision because it'd be ridiculous to do what 2-4 does while we're defending Franziska or something like that.

It's a bit slow to get started, but as soon as Adrian Andrews takes the stand, it's amazing. I'm reserving the perfect 10 for another case, though. Oh, dang, everything gets rounded to one decimal, meaning this will be rounded up to a 10! Fine with me.

One of my favorite comedic bits in the entire series is Phoenix asking de Killer what his fee is and the Judge thinking Phoenix wants him dead

The more I think about it, JFA as a whole might be peak Judge

There's so much to love about this case. There's a lot of callbacks to the first game, but nothing feels repetitive, not even when we have ANOTHER character dressed up in full costume.

Overjoyed to see Oldbag and Will return. Love the continuation of Lotta's arc in 2-2 ... all without her overstaying her welcome. Adrian is a wonderful character, Shelly is terrifying, Engarde is absolutely the worst (complimentary) ... AND there's a cat? Yes!

Cooperative moments from Edgeworth and Gumshoe (and Franziska!), a great subplot involving Maya's kidnapping ... All the major players have character arcs and progression, all for a case that could very well have been a filler case.

Even the humour is on point. I had a lot of laugh out loud moments that did just enough to ease my worries but not make the whole trial feel like a joke - which happened a few times in Big Top.

I might like Rise From the Ashes more, but this is still probably the best case in the first trilogy.

As always, the defense pleads not guilty.

10/10.
