They should too. But we still should, because this is a problem that's going to effect us.

sure, but it'll affect us long after it affects them. they're the neighbors, they have armies, no reason for us to send our people to die in something halfway around the world. that part of the world can deal with their shit first, if they need help then it's a conversation to be had. otherwise, nope.

Except their quite literally is a reason. We can make a bigger impact than they can, and faster. We should've learned this lesson as far back as WW1, but we really didn't.

I'm relatively sure most historians would rate Lend-Lease (especially in the East) as being a more significant US impact in Europe in WW2 than our sending of troops

I can agree there, WW2 was a much different conflict. But WW1, if we'd have sent troops earlier, we'd have SIGNIFICANTLY improved it and prevented tons of deaths, including Americans. Instead Wilson was delusional throughout regarding how the war would play out, and how far Germany would go. Even after the Lusitania sunk, we didn't enter the war for two years, and we responded to a German threat to sink even neutral ships in the war zone with "nah they're bluffing this time".

european countries are already there, of course they'd be significantly faster and with a bigger impact. france and germany are two of the big dogs of the world and they essentially have co-ownership of the EU so if the situation were to become one where troops were needed, they'd be the ones to initiate. otherwise yes, it'd be sending our guys for no reason. if there was one, it'd happen from the countries over there.

Now obviously sending troops to fight is a non-starter because it would lead to nuclear war.

However, the theyre over there, they can sort it out attitude is exactly what got the world into this mess in the first place. The US and other countries retreating on the world stage has allowed bad actors like Russia to get a foothold in places like Syria and the Sahel. The world just looking the other way when Russia invaded Georgia is part of what led to Ukraine. Which is, of course, destroying the US as well. Even aside from that though the western powers (and its not just the US this all applies to) should not just let other places suffer even if it wasnt in their best interest. There are humanitarian disasters happening right now and powerful countries are turning a blind eye to them, thats pretty shameful.

Now, to be very clear, that doesnt mean military intervention which should always be a last resort. But the western powers do need to do something in the places theyve been ignoring. The isolationist turn of the 2010s has straight up failed.

Russia is the one attacking our ally. We didn't start it but we absolutely need to defend them.

We don't have countless troops. Military recruitment has been down because people can just get loans to go to college instead.

Not only that, but in America other big reasons its down are because there are far too many potential recruits who arent eligible due to weight and mental/physical health issues. Cant have a military full of obese people on depression medications
