Nyx Avatar from the original Persona 3. In Reload, he was nerfed and is a joke now. No more Charm + Diarahan on the last phase unless you let it happen or get really unlucky (can it even happen at all? I'm not sure).

Gullveig from Atelier: Escha & Logy might seriously be the hardest final boss I've ever faced though. I'm sure it's because I didn't bother to learn how to synthesize properly, but Jesus fucking Christ, I can barely scratch the thing and my entire party is at level 50.

If you mean the third phase, it's really not that bad. His "swipe" attack deals fixed damage, and with the right gear you can tank Grants, and it's surprisingly weak to begin with. Megid and his orb attack is pretty easily dodged too.

why the fuck was it so hard. never beat that game. even tried playing it again recently.

Wolfenstein the New order last boss was insane. Id done the whole game on hard but the last boss was just such an unfair jump in difficulty I had to lower it after 30 attempts.

Octopath Traveler. Technically it's post game, but it is the final boss that can only be fought after all eight of the possible bosses that earn you the credits sequence. It's an enormous jump in difficulty over everything else in the game and it's the only time you need all eight characters geared up at once and two separate, extremely capable teams. Even well equipped, it has every nasty trick in the book, hits like a train, and requires you to put out a lot of damage fast if you don't wanna get rekt.

Forget their name, but the final boss in Rogue Galaxy has some whack-ass instakill move and I remember dying repeatedly times to it.

Sounds more like it's poorly designed

This is a major pet peeve of mine--final bosses whose difficulty is not even remotely in the same ball park as the rest of the game.

I get wanting to make the final the hardest. I even get if you wanna make it a bit above the logical extrapolation of the difficulty curve.

But for crapping out loud, the last thing I wanna do is have the game's pacing come to a screeching halt at exactly the moment everything is coming to a head in terms of drama, and I've gotten used to the curve enough to tell myself "yay I'm gonna finish tonight." I don't wanna ragequit and come back in four months, ragequit again and come back in a year and watch an ending full of characters I don't recognize anymore doing things I don't know the significance of anymore.

If you want the final boss to be stupid hard, that's ok and in fact I am all for it, but you make the rest of the frickin game hard too so I'm not completely blindsided by it.

Not a final boss, but you had to beat him to get to the final boss. He was also harder than the actual final boss itself.

His name was Meganada. And the game was Digital Devil Saga 2. Never finished the game because this motherfucker was a brick wall to me.

To be fair, I think everyone wiped to Necron on their first try. That was some bullshit (and part of why I hated the game).

It took a ton of tries. Like, enough that I can only estimate, and that estimate is the absurd number of 600 based on how many months I attempted it, how many days a week and how many tries a day.

I beat him on hard too but Super... Man.

I though Galactus was hard in MvsC3.

Not a final boss, but Malenia from Elden Ring can fuck all the way off.

And I know, there's about a million different "beat Melania EASY!" strats out there, but if you don't know what those are... buckle up buckaroo.

Radagon and part 2 can definitely fuck you up, especially if you didn't know beforehand.

Also the double bogey on Vanquish was a nightmare on GH difficulty.

That one took me more than 200 tries.

lol yeah, I was like 13 or 14 at the time and damn did I have a hard time.

Also not sure if it counts but 50/20 mode.

I think it was SO2 where you could easily and accidentally unlock the final bosses true form. Which would then go on to wreck your ass.

Yeah doing the wrong private actions can lead to that

Yugioh Stardust Accelerator where you had to do four duels in a row with the damage to your life points sustained throughout, and two of the decks you were playing against were meta decks with one of them being goddamn teleDAD ffs.

Top it all off your card pool was limited before you had access to post game.

I came in to say this mother fucker. Actually took my forever to beat this guy. 2 days atleast. Never had a final boss take that long. Ever. Most Ive beaten in like 2 hours. Except Isshin.

Well, after day one my ps4 broke and I had to spend 9 months without one, then finally fixed it and took another all day battle to beat this guy.

It's a blur to me at this point but Arc the Lad 2's final boss was at least a massive slog. First form 4000 HP, second form 9999 HP in a game where I don't think any other boss hit pass 2000 nor did you usually hit for more then 150 hp maybe 200s. All while it's AOE attacks hit for more then half your party's heath a turn while your party. You needed a lot of mana restoring items and having your players position well to get their weapon hits in if you aren't relying on just spells. (It's a tactics lite game so whips, spears, and guns had more range and hit in weird angles.)

I remember this boss. My oldest sister was very into Lunar and spent over 30 minutes fighting the second phase. Up until it wiped her party and she gave up for good. I don't even think she got close to defeating him.

Not that you can't figure it out, but Final Fantasy 8 Ultimecia will wreck your shit if you don't know what's up. Sometimes even then she'll still wreck your shit. It's not that bad, just much harder than anything else in the game and definitely took me by surprise back in 1999.
